The GoBeach Vacations favorites:

On the Dutch Side we have!

La Rosa Too This is a great Italian restaurant located at the Maho Reef Mall. You can sit on the balcony overlooking the night life of St.Maarten. Open for Dinner only. Internet Special: Mention that you found La Rosa at www.gobeach.com and you will get a free after-dinner liquor! [Valid until the 15th of December] Closed on Sunday.

[Mark's Place]Mark's Place Creole cuisine. Mark's Place is located in the Le Grand Marche supermarket parking lot. Appetizers include Christophine Farcie, Acras, Calamari Cocktail, some great salads; main courses range from seafood (e.g. local snapper, conch stew) to chicken and other meats (steaks, creole chicken, goat stew, pork tenderloin, etc.etc.). The readers of Caribbean Travel and Life have chosen Mark's Place best restaurant on St.Martin/St.Maarten in 1994! Internet Special: Mention that you found Mark's Place at www.gobeach.com and you will get a free after-dinner liquor!

Saratoga This restaurant featuring creative contemporary cuising is very elegant and is one of my personal favorites! It is located at the Simpson Bay Yacht Club. A great place for a romantic meal on the waterfront. Saratoga has been rated by Frommer's 2000 as, "....the most creative and cutting edge restaurant on St. Maarten..."

[Lee's Menu]Lee's Go local, go Lee's! Across from the Royal Palm in Simpson Bay. Menu changes everyday, depends of what he has caught that day! He also rents out some boats for fishing. Now also open for dinner.

Le Piccolo Tired of French food and looking to try something new? This little restaurant features a very original menu. I guess it is still considered French or French Creole cuisine. Very nice people and great food for a very good price. A strong recommendation. Piccolo has moved from French Cul de Sac to the Dutch Side with the same french innovative cuisine with the same chef Mike. They are still serving appetiser portions and they have a great selection of wine. They will be celebrating the 10th year anniversary in June, 2006. The restaurant is located at the same location of Zee Best breakfast in Plaza Del Lago, just behind the Scotia Bank in Simpson Bay.

Shiv Sagar The first Indian restaurant on the Island. Taste their traditional curries and kebabs from India. It is located in Philipsburg on the Dutch side of the Island. Open for lunch and dinner. The service is good and so is the ambiance.

[Sunset Beach Bar]Sunset Beach Bar A great 'hang-out' bar on Maho Beach. Happy hours are always a lot of fun. Enjoy tourists sitting in the center of the beach running for their lives when Air France comes in! Live entertainment Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 6:30-10. Free Domino'd Pizza at 6:00 on Friday nights. Sunset Beach Bar, one continuous cocktail party! Internet Special: Print out this coupon for a free Jaegermeister during happy hour! Visit their website at sunsetbeachbar.com.

Busby's Beach Bar Enjoy fresh local lobster on the beach of Oyster Pond (Dawn Beach)! This is a really nice, but not well-known beach restaurant. They serve mostly local food. Visit for lunch or join the bar crowd with happy hour. Also good ribs, etc. (and less expensive) try Ms. B's right next to Busby's. Another great place is Scavengers, on the other end of Dawn Beach. They serve some nice fish from the grill for a very reasonable price.

Kan Kan Trie You have probably never heard of it, but it is a nice little place in Philipsburg to have lunch. Let Henkie prepare you a plate with some authentic Surinamese or local food while you sit outside on the terrace on the beach watching over the blue ocean. Kan Kan Trie is located on Great Bay Beach, behind Pasanggrahan. A new place to get Surinamese food is from a truck on Pondfill (close to the Heineken plane). Only open for lunch. For something different, try the pom. They sell out of food quickly.

Wajang Doll - Indonesian. Looking for something different? Indonesia used to be a colony of the Netherlands, hence the strong influence of Indonesian cuisine in Holland (Chinese restaurants serve part Chinese/part Indonesion food). You have to have had a so-called Indonesian 'rijsttafel' at least once in your life; an assortment of many differently spiced 'side-dishes'. Wajang Doll is located in Simpson Bay.

On the French Side we have!

Le Cottage, Grand Case Let hosts Bruno and Stephane spoil you for a night. French cuisine. Nice atmosphere. Browse around through the extensive wine list, with some very fine wines. Though we would recommend that you place yourself at the mercy of Stephane, the sommelier. He will pick [ with you tasting :-) ] the right wines with the courses you ordered! A lot of fun when you want to try new and different wines. Also one of the best foie gras we have tasted on the island. One at the top of our top 5! Phone: 590 29 03 30 from the French Side, 599 547 8820 from the Dutch side.

Bistrot Caraibes, Grand Case. This is a place where you will feel welcome from the start. The two brothers, Thibault and Amaury Meziere are wonderful hosts, and above all serve excellent food (and wine)! Don't miss as appetizers the warm eggplant 'Bavarois' with crab and crispy vegetables or the wonderful foie gras with mango sauce. Main courses range from fresh local local lobster to roasted duck, and include some nice fresh seafood. You can't go wrong here! Easily in our top 5. Ph. 590 29 08 29.

La Cigale - Just recently opened, a little hidden away on the lagoon side of the Nettle Bay area, on the beach at Laguna Beach hotel. Don't be fooled by the location though, the Chef Stephane Istel serves wonderful French food, with a lot of the ingredients flown in fresh from France. Add to the delicious food the fun loving Maitre d', Olivier and you will have a great time! Very highly recommended. In our top 5! Ph. 590 87 90 23

Sol e Luna - A new favorite for us. We had a fantastic meal here. Family owned and operated. French food. Romantic atmosphere. Excellent ris de veau (sweetbreads) and meats. In the Anse Marcel area. A little hard to find, but there are signs. It's just past Taitu, though the restaurant doesn't really have a outside sign. Highly recommended! Why did we never go here before!?

l'Hibiscus, Grand Case. A little off the center of main street through Grand Case, just walk a bit further then the lolo's, then on the right you will find this little Antillean home where they serve very nice French food. The inside of the restaurant is unique. If you like bright colors, this is the place! The food prepared by Chef Thierry Delaunay is very original as well, combining French cuisine with the flavors and spices of the Caribbean. If after week on the island you are looking for something else as the 'same old French food', but still can't get enough of it, this would be the place to visit! Very popular with the locals, not yet discovered by the tourists. New in our top 5! Ph. 590 29 17 91.

l'Alabama, Grand Case. French cuisine. One of the top five restaurants in Grand Case (or the island for that matter) in our opinion. Excellent professional service and matching food.

Le Pressoir, Grand Case. French cuisine. Lot's of atmosphere in this 1886 Creole house. Great desserts. Another one in our top 5.

Le Saint Séverin, Marigot. A little of the beaten path. French food. Maybe not as much atmosphere as other top restaurants but the excellent food and low prices make more then up for it. Special seafood is flown in from France and available Thursday through Saturday. It's located in a 'strip mall' on the left side of the road when you leave Marigot towards the Dutch Side.

Le Bistrot Nú A great little French Restaurant located in the hart of Marigot. This is one of my favorites! Great service and great ambiance, although it has become a bit pricey. Only open for Dinner. Reservations required.

Il Nettuno Specializing in Home made pasta and Fresh seafood. Right on the waterfront in Grand Case. This is where I eat the greatest veal!

[Taitu]Le Taïtu A new favorite for us, located in Cul de Sac. Salads, creole specialties (boudin, farci,...), pasta, meat (chicken, veal, steaks,...), seafood (shrimp, mahi-mahi, tuna, swordfish, red snapper,...) and the greatest desserts (chocolate mousse, profiteroles,...). Internet Special: Mention that you found Le Taïtu at www.gobeach.com and you will get a free after-dinner liquor!

Mario's Bistro Everyone's favorite. Romantic ambiance in the heart of Sandy Ground. Great food and attentive service. Coming from Marigot, take a right before the bridge. Reservations required.

Chanteclaire Waterfront restaurant serving French cuisine. Great food. The chef was even featured on one of the cooking shows on US TV with her now famous dessert. Dare to order it! Located in Marina Royal, Marigot.

Layla's - This relatively new beach bar & restaurant in Nettle Bay is a great place to have a good french cuisine lunch. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Original seafood dishes. A bit hard to find since it is not located right on the road, but you have to go on a dirt road through a gate, it is next to Hotel Royal Beach, look for the big Layla's sign.

l'Inedit There are only a few places on the island where you can see shows. This is one of them. Rotating every few weeks there is a new group who perform almost every night. Ranging from drag shows to ... The restaurant downstairs serves good food as well. But don't come too early, they are French as can be and start late! Located opposite Hotel Le Patio in Marigot.

Zee Best For breakfast try this sidewalk cafe in Marigot. Delicious croissants, omelettes, etc. Very entertaining. Now also in Simpson Bay (behind the Scotia Bank)!

Following are some excellent recommendations of mostly Grand Case restaurants by Le Petit Hotel and l'Esplanade Caraibes (Grand Case). You can't go wrong with these:
