Amex does not impose a foreign transaction fee, but they do impose a conversion fee (charge not put through in dollars).

Great pictures. I can't wait to see all of the "progress" in Red Pond, Gibbs Bay, Guana, and Cay Bay...

Rita, Ti Bouchon is French. Momo, the owner is worth the price of admission aside from the fantastic food. He'll make you feel as though you are eating at his house. The prices are in dollars and tend to be about 15-20% cheaper than the better restaurants in Grand Case, with the quality being every bit as good. The Stone was closed for 3 weeks for renovations. I hadn't heard about an

Quai Ouest on the far end of Capt. Oliver's marina. Not new, but fantastic is Ti Provencale in Grand Case. The Stone, located in Simpson Bay, is also very good. Ti Bouchon on the road to Cul de Sac. The breakfasts at Big Fish and at Mr. Busby's are very good.

If you decide to go with a villa, you could also look into the Beacon Hill area. That would put you very close to much of the Maho and Simpson Bay nightlife.

If that is for the nonstop, grab it. Even if it is a connector, you will occasionally find prices a little lower (high $300's), but not low enough to make it worth waiting. That far out, you might want to consider trip insurance just in case one or two of the sirlines don't survive today's harsh climate.

Well, I admit this was a tough one. Although it is viewable from the road, it is on private property. This is an authentic Irish castle that an American has been building over the past 10 years. There are several ramparts that afford some of the best views of the island that you can imagine. It is indeed located in Cripple Gate, high on the hill to the left as you approach the road to Fri

I thought this one might be tough, except for Philippe and Barbara. If I ever lose anything on the island, I know who I'm asking to find it! Here is another picture from the area to help...

Philippe got it right on PM. I am very impressed! It is indeed on the French Side. It is not Fort Oranje. Here is a wider perspective and a different angle to make it a little easier...

This may come at a good time and coordinate with public awareness on the Dutch Side.

Actually, I took this thread to be more realistic than many, in that SXM is not the only Caribbean island with crime against tourists. At the same time, I also understand the apprehension that some feel about the topic since the flavor of this board is quite different from the recent preoccupation that has made TTOL feel like crimetalkonline.com at times.

Flowers, "those in the know" realize that comparable restaurants on the French and the Dutch Side are close in price, regardless of the Euro. Temptation and Bajatzu are roughly the same price as just about any restaurant in Grand Case, while Rare is more. In fact, order the Thermidor at Pineapple Pete's and the bill will make you ask "Euros or dollars?" I presume you are

No idea. I know the new lighthouse is to be condos in the $1 million + range. With the glut of new condos on the island, it will be interesting to see if they sell. The other concern will be parking for the entire complex, with additional units but no significant increase in parking apparently planned.
