Yeah, I'm a little confused too. And since he or she hasn't responded to any of the suggestions, I'm thinking maybe this was a joke?

What's almost more amazing is that you recognized her from her driver's license photo! I sure don't look like mine, especially when I'm in St. Maarten!!

Don't apologize! All questions are welcome here! We all hope you have a wonderful vacation! Depending on where you live, and which side of the island you are visiting, the answer is different. If you live in a country that uses the Euro, and you plan on visiting the French side, then by all means, bring your Euros and you'll pay prices you're accustomed to! If you're

Nah, a week of rain is definitely NOT likely! The forecast always says there's a chance of rain. If it rains at all it's usually at night. If it rains during the day, it's generally a 10-minute shower and the sun comes right back out. Not to worry!

It's pretty easy to avoid the bridge opening times; you just have to plan a little. And I would NEVER drive around the lagoon to get to the airport from Flamingo! BTW, we stay at LaVista Beach, which is right next to Flamingo.

The first thing to do about the traffic is to accept that there are a lot of cars on the roads, and there's nothing you can do about that. Add to that the fact that no one's really in a hurry to get anywhere (island time) you will have congestion. We generally don't care when we get where we're going, but if we have a reason we need to be somewhere on time (a party, or a din

Papa... I don't know the Blade (at least I don't think I do), but I DO know Pat. Pat's post was based on years of experience and gave real examples of the reasons for her views on the island. Blade's, on the other hand, cited no real examples for his or her feelings. I'm not criticizing him or her, but I would tend to place more value on the opinions and statements

Realize that coming from the airport in your long pants with no tan broadcasts that you just arrived. If crooks are watching, they will know that your luggage is probably in the trunk, and can pop it open in minutes and be gone with your stuff. Don't take the chance.

I don't think it opened on the 9th. We were there until the 11th, and they were still working on it.

That is a very difficult question to answer, not knowing your son's appetite and the foods he would like to eat. Generally food prices are a little higher in St. Maarten, as pretty much everything has to be imported. I'd add about 20% to what you would expect to spend in a larger US city, and that should be adequate.

Interesting observations, especially that they are from the point of view of a future full-time resident and not a tourist. You certainly would look at things differently! The only disagreement I have with your statements is that in most of the French side restaurants, the service is indeed included. I have encountered only one that I can remember where it is not.

Philippe, as hard as it is, at least now you know. Don't waste your emotions on the vet; he's not worth it. Just pour them into loving William and your other pets, and cherish the memories of your time with Bobby Lee.

It is my understanding that if you have a GSM phone, your Verizon service will work. It is the CDMA service that no longer works on the island.

It's all very confusing, which is why I don't even use street names when I'm there. I just say something like, "the road that goes past the Fresh Market". Makes it hard to give directions, though!!
