Thank you Philippe! Now that I enlarged the photo and looked at it more carefully, now I can see that the steeple I am seeing is really behind the church on the courthouse! Here it is:

OK...here are the last of the photos I will post (there are plenty more on the website I will give you) and I will attach them all here because they are pretty identifiable, but just so fascinating: PHOTO 1 PHOTO 2 PHOTO 3 PHOTO 4 AND FINALLY LAST BUT NOT LEAST This last one is important because of the subject matter and once that is discovered why this photo

Was there ever a place called "The Landing Place"? One of the photos in that book shows a building VERY similar to the courthouse with nothing in front of it, similar to the courthouse, but is missing the second floor. It has the steeple and the lower floor with 3 openings (a door and 2 windows) plus a fence in front but the photo is called "The Landing Place".

How very nice of you to offer this. I'm sure that there are many residents of the island that would love to read it!

Well, good and bad news...the good news is that there was a paperback published at some time in the past but the bad news is that when I googled it, it stated that the book was out of publication with limited books available. After I do one more teaser, I will reveal the name of the book and the website and if anyone is so inclined, they could check their library or any surrounding ones to see

Wow...this is stumping me because of the very high mountains. I can see some sort of a town or factory area along the coastline in the distance but it doesn't coincide with any place that I may know. I assume Barbara and Philippe will know where this is but I at a loss.

LMAO....Wow! I truly had no idea. Well, before I land up revealing the website of this great bunch of photos, I will have to find another one to post that will give the brain a little test.

Actually alot of it is preserved in a book type of form but I will need to find out if it was actually published or if it is just on this one website. Maybe Barbara knows.

Barbara....I could tell you but then I would have to kill you and then what fun would that be.... LOL... Actually, it was part of that website I had shown you about a year ago that I found on the net. Fascinating photos and history of the island. Of course, now that I have written this, I can imagine everyone googling this and then any photo I posted would be answered within 2 seconds...LMAO

Although I am not really sure, it looks like Divi. I am sure I'm wrong but I thought I'd give it a shot.

LMAO....and created the very first traffic jam on the SB bridge when it stalled in front of a line-up of goats and horses, thus causing a massive input of steaming threads on the other website....><

OK...The question was "what is it, what is it, and where is it?" You have answered the first part and the third part but what is it in the second part...LOL... PS...You got part of it in your answer to the first part....

OK...here's one for everyone. THE QUESTION: You may know where this photo was taken but what is it about the photo that made it monumental to the residents? Barbara may know but if she does, she should PM me and not say because the winner has to search the web and post the next quiz and she has already exceeded her quota...LOL Vicki

To Reality Please...I am not sure you understand what is going on here and so I will explain....there are some wonderful people here who are testing our knowledge of where places are, based on vintage photos. This is more like a detective game and not an advertisement for coming to the island. If you have any grievances, might I suggest you visit TTOL where you will have a bigger audience. I

That home with the cute porch on the right looks soooo familiar although maybe just the standard fare back then. I keep wanting to click on the girl in the middle, picking her up and dragging her over to the side to see what's beyond LOL. The sun is on the left side so I would assume that's where the water would be if water was nearby. If it were Grand Case, then maybe further down t

OK...here's a challenge...whoever posts the correct answer is obligated to post the NEXT photo for others to guess. For those that don't have a stash of photo's hidden in their attic, it would be a slightly harder challenge, but think of the fun!

You can try looking in Simpson/Cole Bay, Maho, or Cupecoy. I will assume that you will be renting a car as well so any of these areas are pretty well stocked with restaurants, casinos, and bars. In any of these places, there are plenty of walkable restaurants or casinos, and within a 5 - 10 minute drive of each other for the nightlife. Look at the various websites advertising condos or timesha

When you get to the airport, pick up K-Pasa which should give you the scoop on the goings-on at the clubs and restaurants around the island. Then pick up a Daily Herald newspaper at a Dutch side grocery store to see what's going on regarding Island activities. That should give you all that you need but truthfully, when I hit the island and pick up these items, the most I ever do is read the

And I just noticed that one of these dear people just posted a trip report so please read Pat's trip report that is close to the top of these threads...she is one of the people who truly likes The Towers. As she will admit, some of the rooms could use a little uplift but truthfully, it's not some place you will be living in 24/7. You will be out and about most of the day and as long as

I would think that you should have no worries whatsoever. It's a very nice older resort that is clean, safe, and very welcoming. We have never stayed there but I know of a few lovely people who swear by it and in fact one couple that recently purchased a week because they liked it so very much. The area of Mullet that you may be hearing of is fine during the day but like everyone who stay

All I can say is WOW! You both did a terrific job of investigating and so thorough too. I have to say that I learned so much more from your meeting than I could have ever done just looking at the photo and I am so impressed. I remember years ago when we first visited the island with our friends who introduced it to us. They told us that Maho beach had so much more sand on it than what we we
