Well we had a good visit and were sorry to leave. We stayed in a villa in Guana Bay (http://www.villa-alicia.info/) and it was a very nice place indeed. Once we figured out the basic road system it wasn't too bad getting around the island, only got stuck in traffic twice in Phillipsburg :-). We did a beach a day, Orient Bay, Pinel Island, Copecoy, Great Bay beach, Long Bay beach, Plum b

We went there today. The gate is closed but is electronicly opened. I don't know how. Both when we went in and when we left there was another car that opened the gate. Once in we drove down and found the parking lot. I think there was a sign that said access to public beach. I think that if you drive up to the gate there is a way to talk to someone and have them open it. don't k

I would add that there were two cars in front of us. We never really made it to the gate, both cars were stopped, their backup lights were on so I simply stopped short of that, maybe 20 meters from the gate, backed up and got back on the road. The two cars that were in front of me both had French side license plates on their cars and went towards Marigot, the way we had come from. We were plan

Hi all, my wife and I are currently staying on St. Martin in Guana Bay. Today we tried to visit the beach at Long Bay. We were coming from Marigot, driving down Rue de Sandy Gound and then Rue des Terress Basses and had it all worked out, but when we turned into Rue Baie Longue which has a parking area on it about mid beach were were quickly stopped by a fancy gate which prevented access. A si

As they say out west, YEEEEE HAW! I will ask the car rental agency (Thrifty) as to thier advice as to whether the car should be locked or not. I alledgedly have access to the club, we'll know in less than 24 hours.

Thank you both! I have to check out this concept of shipping things down there for the next time we go! :-) The advice about the car is especially appreciated. The person renting us the villa we are staying at told us she has "The club" in the place. Looks like it'll be used instead of the door locks!. Rich

Hi all, well the time is almost at hand for our first ever visit to your island. Arriving next Wednesday and staying at a villa on Guana Bay for a week. I don't know about the rest of you but I AM EXCITED. LOL Any last minute hints? Any activities, festivals, events or anything else I should know about? Can't wait. A few questions: Anyone know if my TracFone will work on the

Thank you all for the feedback. We will be careful of the surf (how high are the waves, I'm used to 4-6' waves as normal on southern L.I. NY.). We are planning on visiting other beaches. If the trip turns out to be good we may very well fit it in every other year.

Hello all, I'm a new member here. My wife and I aren't travelers, in fact we are going on our first real flyaway vacation next August to a villa that is right next to Guana Bay beach. She was looking for a beach that is fairly private and we think this is from what I have read. I was curious if anyone can offer advice of any kind to a couple of people celebrating 30 years together, a
