I've learned the first statue of Liberty given to the US from France was a woman of color. The US refused it, but now it stand on St. Martin. Where?

Does she still reside in the Agrement Roundabout? I would like to visit her. I've been coming to the island annually since 2007, and this is the first I've heard of this! AND.....where IS the Agrement Roundabout???? Phillipe????

the Lady Liberty statue at the Agrément roundabout on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten was sculpted by Theodore Bonev in 2007 to commemorate the 159th anniversary of the Emancipation of slavery on the island. It has no connection (other than a thematic one) to the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Barbara,

Thanks for the info on Lady Liberty. Your response inspired me to watch a 10 minute video on BlackAtlas.com which was very informative. I, now know where the Agrement Roundabout is located, between Marigot and Friar's Bay.
