Moving to the island-hows the internet?

Hi everyone,
I'll be moving to the island this summer with my wife who is attending school. I had a question about the quality and speed of the internet on the island. I understand it won't be like what I have in the states, but for my work I need a connection that will download large files, and permit video streaming. Would anyone have any advice on this? Or could recommend a company to look into? I believe we're planning to live on the Dutch side, but that's not confirmed yet.
Thank you in advance, it's greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find out almost the same thing. We are trying to get information on reliable residential Internet service in Colebay. Are there alternate forums for local St. Martin residents?

Thanks in advance.

reliable internet? 3 choices
Telem
Caribserve
Scarlett
Maybe CableNet if it's in your area.
can't vouch how reliable they are
everyone complains about how slow internet is on the dutch side. I have Telem which is slow IMO.
there are no forums particularly for SXM residents but there are SXM forums on Facebook SXM or Bust, and Pirates of SXM and Everything St. Marten...... which is for visitors but where some residents hang out. you could also try Traveltalkonline SXM forum.

We have had little to no trouble with reliability using Caribserve for 8 years. Hubby has his own business and relies heavily on internet connection.

We found the wifi on the French side worked better. Also there was a lot of power cuts on the Dutch side which doesn't help when you are trying to send emails. Our villa has orange on the french side - no complaints whatsoever
