First-timer's questions about Xmas on the island

Hi.

Looking forward to arriving on SXM on the afternoon of 24 December. From what I've been reading, it looks like stores will be closed in the evening of the 24th and all day on the 25th, but open again on the 26th? Is this correct?

Staying at Club Orient, and wondered a few things:
1) Any thoughts on what usually goes on for Xmas Eve and Xmas day on the island? Any fun or traditional things? Realize we're getting in late, so any suggestions that can help us plan in advance would be great.
2) Do you generally need reservations in advance for dinner during this time? Would I need to make them in advance of arriving? And does anyone have any favourites or hidden gems they want to share?
3) Capt alan's boat tour to St Barth's? Worth doing?

many stores stay open late on xmas eve..always last minute shoppers..most places are closed on Christmas day..its a pretty quiet day with most people staying at home with their families. you can always find a restaurant open though and yes I would make reservations. you can probably make them when you get on island.
the 26th is Boxing Day, celebrated on the Dutch side, not so much on the French side.
I have never taken Capt Alan's boat to to St Barths but I have taken his snorkel tour.. very nice...His tour to st Barths gets good reviews..
Be aware that if there is a lot of wind the going over to st barths can be choppy and people can get seasick even on the ferries.
If you get a chance visit the Christmas house in Cripple Gate ( near the turn off that goes to Friars Bay) It s usually open from 6 to 11 pm or something like that and is really specially decorated..
