Happy Hours

Infinity Bar – @ Oyster Bay Beach Resort- 4-6pm Drinks are 2 for 1 on house drinks, $5.00, $6.00 Frozen. Coronita $1.00 (3:30-4pm) [i216.photobucket.com] Coronas $2.00. Beau Beau's has the Coronitas for $.75 all day.
Dinghy Dock – 5-7pm Pour your own is back.
Peg Leg Pub - 4-6pm Appetizers are half price. Chicken fingers $5.00. [i216.photobucket.com]
Normally we could make a meal out of their apps. But for some reason anything with cheese was not available. So the fingers with a rum and coke and tea -$12.00.
St Maarten Yacht Club - Great place to watch yachts come in/out of Lagoon. It was a little quiet this trip. [i216.photobucket.com] Beer and soda - $4.00
Dream Bar - Get Together organized by Joyce, Elizabeth, and Ann. Thank you ladies.
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
Got to meet Marty. [i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
Saw fellow Metro St Louisian Wendell for the first time in years. [i216.photobucket.com]
Saw Joyce exercising her new hip with Marty's help.
[i216.photobucket.com]
Great party. Really nice place.
The Palms – On Airport Rd
[i216.photobucket.com] Great place to watch traffic. [i216.photobucket.com]
1/2 price beer and cocktails. $5. appetizers. 4-7pm.

Dinner:

La Bamba Beach Bar – Since we arrived on a Sunday and since Category 5 plays on Sunday night at La Bamba, that where we ate. They have a good bar menu that includes sandwiches, finger foods, salads. [i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com] I had the Fajita Panini. [i216.photobucket.com] Betty had their Cheeseburger. Both came with FF and slaw. With one Captain&Coke, and one Mt Gay & Coke, and a diet soda the bill was $35.
Somewhat disappointing was the opening set which featured twin 13 year old boys,
[i216.photobucket.com]
playing their guitars and singing their own music. Impressive to start, but got old pretty quick and not what the crowd was expecting.
Chesterfields – Now with a fenced parking lot, Chesterfields is one of our don't miss spots. Started with their Coconut Shrimp [i216.photobucket.com] followed by our favorite, Grilled grouper. [i216.photobucket.com] With two teas plus service charge the bill was$37.05.
Patricia is our favorite waitress here. Don't forget to get your parking ticket stamped.
BZH Creperie – After a great dinner at Chesterfields, what could be better than a couple dessert crepes from BZH. Betty chose the Chocolate/Banana,
[i216.photobucket.com]
I had the carmel, [i216.photobucket.com] Sorry, they were partially eaten before I remembered to take a picture.
13E or $17.00. No sc. They're closed on all Sunday and Monday evening, open for lunch and dinner the other times. No credit cards.
Dinghy Dock – Rib Plate with a Captain & Coke, Diet soda, $18.00 no service charge.
[i216.photobucket.com]
Met the new owners Seth and his sister Tori. [i216.photobucket.com] Here's the present menu, although Seth says that it's going to change
[i216.photobucket.com]
L'Oasis – Always looking for good desserts and being very close to DD, we headed down the road to satisfy our sweet tooth(S). Here's owner, Martine and Betty's CremeBrulee.
[i216.photobucket.com]
I had the Profiteroles. [i216.photobucket.com] Really was a little too much, but I ate it anyway. The two desserts and a decaf coffee
17.85E or $22., no serv. Charge.
12 Meter Bar – We returned for their fish and chips.
[i216.photobucket.com] comes with fries and salad, a beer and soda, $18.50. No sc, before tip. Their menu [i216.photobucket.com]
Canoa – Was seated at a dockside table by waiter Wallie. He was assisted by the charming and much better looking, Janneke. [i216.photobucket.com] While waiting, we were served warm bread with canoa's wonderful garlic/butter spread. [i216.photobucket.com]
.Our favorite SXM appetizer is the Plantain Canoe.
[i216.photobucket.com] A split plantain, covered in a zesty marina sauce, ground beef, and topped with provel cheese before being put back in the oven. [i216.photobucket.com]
We shared a Grilled Mahi Mahi with Mango sauce. [i216.photobucket.com]
With a glass of wine and tea. $45.00 No sc.
Owner/Chef Sherman Marten(how many different ways can you spell Maarten/Martin/?) was recently featured in the Get Out section of the Daily Herald.
Soprano's (2)- We enjoy Soprano's pizza. One visit was plain cheese. [i216.photobucket.com]
One visit we tried the four cheese pizza. Didn't find the gogonzola addition that great. We usually split a Caesar Salad with our pizza.
Harbour Queen – Visits this past February and May left HQ as the best ribs for our tastes. We got the appetizer size as opposed to the all you can eat size. [i216.photobucket.com] As mentioned by others in recent reports, the serving size has gotten smaller. Of course, food prices are up and since they didn't change the price on the menu, you have to make up the difference someplace. We still think the ribs are the best as well as the rice and peas, and baked beans. Hopefully they'll add a one full slab serving size to the menu for those of us who want more than the app size, but not go “all you can eat”. Our plate $11.95 plate plus 2 teas @$4. = $15.95. No sc.
Pineapple Pete's – Again. A mandatory stop on any SXM visit. This time we shared a Caesar Salad [i216.photobucket.com]
and Neptune Burger w/Cheese, [i216.photobucket.com]
and, of course, The Crème Brulee(that's the mandatory part). With 2 sodas, tax and Serv.Charge
$37.78.
Peg Leg Pub – Love the music of Cover2Cover who perform on Wednesday at PLP. Ordered a Large Filet with Baked Potato. Also had a glass of wine and an Amaretto sour. We wanted to have one of their Hot Fudge Sundaes, but Shawn cleared our table and ask us to order dessert at the bar so they could have the table. Wednesday night is a busy night because of Cover2Cover, [i216.photobucket.com] but we weren't sitting at a table mark Reserved. In fact Elizabeth and David walked in shortly thereafter and were given our table. They had no reservation. While I still enjoy PLP steak. I still enjoy PLP Wednesday Night entertainment.
But with all respect for Shawn and the great host he is, asking someone to finish their meal at the bar does not seem like good PR. Others have also complained about the shoddy and really slow service on Wednesday Night. PLP knows that Wednesday is busy and should plan accordingly.
The bill comes with a 15% gratuity already figured in.
The Palms – Located on Airport Rd almost across from The Good Card Store is The Palms. Owner /chef /waiter Greg has a very friendly little place. Our visit we tried the Chicken Special for the night. A chicken breast stuffed with fresh spinach and basil, creme cheese, onion, roasted garlic, and wrapped with bacon. $22.00 [i216.photobucket.com] [i216.photobucket.com]
Carousel (2)– Not a dinner place, but a place to go after dinner for some great ice cream.
Tried two new favors this time Bailey's, which is just what it sounds like with small pieces of chocolate in it. A “Carousel” with is vanilla ice cream with pieces and ribbons of chocolate fudge. Betty had the Macadamia one visit.

What I/we did-
This was a quiet trip. No parties to plan. No guests or family to entertain.
Played Bingo at OBBR. Won $40. on a $12. buy-in, in final game on Monday, Betty won $42. and a set of jeweled studs on my $12. buy-in, in the final on Friday. Did nothing on the Wednesday games.
Visited the Princess and Atlantis Casinos. Played almost even.
Went on Neil's Lagoon Sunset Cruise. [i216.photobucket.com] Much quieter this time. Didn't get arrested by the French side police.
Did some shopping for Christmas presents in Phillipsburg. [i216.photobucket.com]
Photographed the progress the the new Causeway construction.
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
Climbed the rocks across from OBBR.
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
Found what I think is the French/Dutch border marker.
[i216.photobucket.com]
And someones personal border chair. [i216.photobucket.com]
Walked the length of Dawn Beach because of the sand fill-in on the rocks. Oyster Bay to Westin.
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
Was fortunate enough to be invited to birthday party for Sharon Harris(Queen of SXM) at The Summit.
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
[i216.photobucket.com]
This was our first visit to SXM in November. Weather was very pleasant. Usually a breeze. Water warm. Traffic was effected by construction, both on the Dutch side(mostly Welfare Rd) and French side. Most restaurants seemed busy at least through one setting. Most restaurants were open.
The Gess gas station in Orleans was closed. Gas at Cadisco was 1.34/liter.
Thanks to all who have posted reports before me and help make our trip as great as ever.
Thankfully, our next trip is already booked for the end of January.
