My memories don't go quite that far back but I do remember when everything but the restaurants on Front St. shut down for siesta and it wasn't at all unusual to see the ladies shopping with the big baskets on their heads and in Marigot I remember the old, old marketplace that was truly an island market place where it wasn't at all out of the norm to see the ladies buy their chicken for dinner and wring its' neck right there on the spot. I won't comment about the midday 'siesta' closings in Marigot because I seem to remember that occurred there for years after P'berg had given up the practice.

It's such a wonderful island and holds so many wonderful memories. Thank you, both B and Philippe for rekindling them and sharing them with those who weren't lucky enough to have them first hand.

Still see ladies (and gents sometimes) with baskets on their heads.

Unfortunately, the donkeys have been replaces by scooters!

I WOULd a lot more prefer donkey poop to the scooter exhausts myself. At least the donkeys are cute and when braying there still more tolerable then the scooter noise and those donkeys wont come up on your blind side.

and you cannot do wheelies on Donkey!...
