we are going to the island for the 1st time the end of Sept. We like scooters at home. What about one to see the daytime sites there.

NO WAY! They are dangerous on SXM. It is too congested, a car is much safer and better.

The locals do drive rather fast on the hilly, narrow roads with a lot of blind curves: stay toward the edge of roads and avoid diving down the middle of roads.

If you're used to riding scooters at home, you'd probably be alright in the daytime and using them for going to the beach, etc., but scooters aren't recommended for night driving at all.

However, due to the great diversity of the island, with regard to the scattered and "niche locations" of the many beaches resturants and bars etc., you'll definitely need a vehicle of some sort to navigate through this uniquely mountainous, island-multiformity, and experience what the island has to offer.


So, if you don't want to rent both a car and a scooter, go with the car.
