I know that this subject has been discussed before but I just want to make sure that most places accept travelers checks.

We can't wait to get there!

Yes, yes and yes. Do bring them in $50, easier to cash than $100.

I bring them all the time and the first time they were refused was in Feb. @ the new U.S.Imports at the roundabout!! I was a bit surprised. Good thing I had some cash. But, other than that every other place accepts them.

We've never had a problem, but frankly we use our CapOne Visa whenever we can, just to get the cash back. We have used travelers checks to get 1:1 in restaurants on Orient and in Grand Case with no problems. The only place we've ever had a tc refused was at a gas station on the Dutch side.

Kathy,

Since our earliest trips back in the 70's right up through the present we have always used TCs for the bulk of our vacation expenses and we've never had an issue with them. We back that up with limited amounts of cash and credit cards but TCs are our primary source of funds on the island.

That said, we always bring hundred dollar denomination checks and use them in places where they will be primarily consumed in their usage, such as a dinner check or at the jewelry stores. If we actually need to cash them we do so at the casinos and sometimes at Le Grand Marche and the food store at Maho when making purchases. Be prepared for them to ask for a picture ID - drivers license or a good copy of your passport will usually suffice.

I do use credit cards (Cap one only as suggested above and more for the lack of international destination fees than anything else...) but still prefer to pay most of the expenses by check and not come home to a lot of surprises.

Respectfully,

pat

We use them all the time- only place we were not able to use them was at the Market Garden grocery store on Billy Folley Road. They said they received counterfeit ones and were no longer going to accept them

MC and Visa taken ALMOST everywhere (dont think at gas stations) even at grocery stores and some beach bars. AE and Discover are taken but less so then the others. Be prepared to be asked to show ID (not always) sometimes depending on the amount of the charge.
