Bars to see the Airplanes?

Hey all! Which bar or bars is it that you can sit on the beach and watch the planes fly overhead from the airport? I've heard this is a super cool thing to experience. Thanks!

There are two bars.. Sunset Beach Bar and Driftwood. Simple to get to. Just drive past the airport, pass it by, and make a left around the traffic circle. Keep in mind that flights arrive on the average between noon and 2pm.. Here are some of the flight times

AA from JFK, NY 12:24pm
AA from Miami, FL 2:00pm
CO from Newark, NJ 12:08pm
US from Philadephia, PA 1:44pm and sometimes a 2nd flight at 3:51pm
US from Charlotte NC 1:24pm and sometimes a 2nd flight at 3:26pm
AF from Paris 1:30pm

I couldn't find KLM, but they too will arrive around the same 1-2ish as everyone else. All flights don't operate daily but you're bound to find at least 1-3 jets a day..

Hope that helps!

Karin.

Hey!

For something a little different, try KARAKTER on Simpson Bay Beach. Although the perimeter fence obstructs a bit you can be up front and close to the runway, directly across from the terminal. Food is yummy as well!

I also find Tortuga Beach Cafe a nice place to watch the planes although the planes are not right on top of you....

X3 Tortuga! You get to watch the planes come down but in a nicer setting and IMHO, better food offered at reasonable pricing. I have taken some very nice pics standing along the elevated path that leads from the street to the restaurant. AND it's covered in case it rains. They have a bar and do have a happy hour at 3:00 PM. Visitors are welcomed there even though it's on Royal Islander property and no one says you can't walk down to the beach while waiting for the food and take pics from there as well.

My second choice would be Driftwood which is right next door.

Park in either underground lot in Maho, short walk to RI.

It's a nice relaxing place Elaine and the prices are really not unreasonable either. I'm not going to say that the food a fabulous. Just worth the money in a perfect viewing location. They are not open at night except when they have a "special" night. I would recommend parking under La Terrasse and crossing the street to where Driftwood is and walking up the driveway between Driftwood and RI. Otherwise, if there's parking at Driftwood, then I would assume you could do that to and it's free. If you're into strolling through Maho, then rather than drive all the way down to the airport, you could park along the path just outside of Maho (on the course side) in that strip of spaces that people park in at night which I HATE, it's usually empty during the day and safer than at night. I've parked there a few times when I needed to run to the store in Maho. Good exercise...lol

Thanks! Not a fan of anything Maho, but would like to try Tortuga.
