Capt. Oliver's buffet

There is a discussion going on on one of the "other boards" regarding whether there is a 15% service charge or tip added to the bill--figured I would come straight to the only source that really knows--Tabby is there or isn't there?

For now, there is a 15% service charge added on the lunch and dinner menu, it is clearly stated on our menu.
However we do not apply the 15% service charge on the saturday night buffet.
In a close future, we intend to get rid of the 15% service charge totally, and to apply a "service compris/ service included" which should make it easier for the customer to decide themselves the value of the tips they intend to leave or not to leave.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

the whole resort is build right on the border... half of it is located on French Territory, the other half is located on Dutch waters.
Basically everything which is built on ground is French, and everything which is built on pile above water is dutch.
The land is own by Captain Oliver's by simple fee tittle registered at the "Cadastre Francais" in Marigot.
The water is tittled by parcels with meetbriefs and certificates of admeasurement" in the Dutch Kadaster in Philipsburg, and those water parcels are owned by the Island Governement of St Maarten and assigned to Captain Oliver's by "erfpacht" (deeded 99 years long lease).
So to simplify, the Hotel is built on the French side, The Restaurant, the Iguana Bar, the Dinguy Dock and the Marina are buit on the Dutch side.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Thanks for the reply--I gather the buffet is only Saturday night?? Any plans for a mid-week? Travelling on Saturday to Saturday it is always tough getting there the day that we are arriving in SXM--we stay in Simpson bay

No unfortunatly no plan for a buffet in mid-week. It is a lot of work for the kitchen staff, and when during events like the Captain Oliver's Regatta in May we do few buffet concecutively, it put a lot of pressure on them... so during the week we are only serving "a la carte"

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Philippe, how long do you think it should take us to get there from Little Divi Bay?

about 15 minuts... When you exit Divi Little Bay, you make a right. You pass Great Bay Hotel and a 1/4 of mile after it you make a left just before entering Front street. You stay on this street which will turn into long wall Rd. At the light you make a right into the pondfill. You stay on the pondfill up to the end, and at the last round about you take to second way out. This is the way to sucker garden. You stay on that road up to the end, pass Defiance, and after 2 or 3 miles you will arrive in Oyster Pond. At the fork you make left toward the Frenchside (the fork is basically on th border...), then you will see sign for Captain Oliver's.

Kind Regards,
Philippe
