Lagoon Causeway question

Hi all, great forum BTW.
I have a serious question: Does anyone have a good handle on the plans to connect the airport to the PdP area by causeway/bridge/tunnel or other such device? I read the piece in the Herald recently, but it gave no real details. I have heard stories for several years. Where is this connection proposed to be build, when is it likely to happen, and is this just rumor or real? Wouldn't a causeway block boat access to the northwest part of the lagoon, including new developments at Cupecoy and Bobby's Boatyard by the Red Cross?
Any knowledgeable comments would be appreciated

Hey!

Knowledgeable not, but it will probably be wait and see. Island Government seems to move in mysterious ways.

There is a bridge at Marigot....check the lagoon on GOOGLE EARTH.

coco,

Believe it or not, that wasn't a rumor but part of the sales spiel when PdP first opened.

We met with friends who were involved with the grand opening of the casino and one of the head sales people was telling us all about how they only had but a few more parcels to close on and the golf course would be begun and once done, it would put Port de Plaisance on the map.

Played any golf there lately?

Respectfully,

Thanks for all the insights...smoke and mirrors again, perhaps? Although the Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority seems to have been involved with this story (I know they have changed recently to fall under the Harbour Authority), what would their "angle" be?

Pat--yes, that is what I meant--I remember when they were trying to sell the place and that was one of their big pitches--best golf on the Island (which would not be too hard--any golf would be) Of course it never came to be--wasn't that the late 80's-early 90's???

Actually, at that time the Mullet Bay Resort Golf Course was pretty darned good, Coco. It only really fell apart after the storms in 95/96 wiped out both the resort and the irrigation system. For a brief time then it was maintained but like everything else Mullet, it fell by the wayside.

It's still a fun course to play even in it's present state so some of my avid golfer friends tell me, but certainly nothing like 'back in the day'.......and for those who would, I really don't mean to get into a thing about how bad the Mullet course is today. Those who know the story get it and it's too bad, but it is what it is and sadly, we're not going to change it.

But yes, that was most definitely the sales spiel used by the sales teams at Port De Plaisance and even then, many of us wondered how that 'international' course might come to pass and questioned the possibility. But it worked and they sold quite a few weeks on the promise and you can see what a great course it is today.

Respectfully,

I remember when we stayed at Mullet in 83' it was around $100 w/cart for a round--was a nice course then but of course so was the whole Mullet property (loved their tiki bar on the beach--think the same bathrooms were still there last time we went)
