A story from the Regatta

This has nothing to do with the racing but is one of my favourite memories of last week & hope you don't mind me sharing it with you. While running Registration at the Yacht Club last week one of the Dutch Bareboat (charterboat) teams handed in a wallet that they had found in the back of the taxi they'd got from the airport on Monday night. Inside, along with the usual credit card, cash, business cards, driver's licence, etc was a membership card to a yacht club up near Seattle, so they'd figured that the owner was here for the regatta & asked if I could return it to her. I left her a message on her cell phone, sent her an e:mail but heard nothing. On Sunday eve at Kim Sha I saw her, recognizing her from the photo on her driver's licence. One amazed, delighted owner & her wallet were reunited. Having arrived on island late on Monday, she hadn't realized it was missing until the next day and assumed that it had been stolen. smiling smiley

What's almost more amazing is that you recognized her from her driver's license photo! I sure don't look like mine, especially when I'm in St. Maarten!!

Ha ha. The photo was a true likeness and I'd also found another photo of her on facebook as we're both friends of the Regatta.

Great story. She got her wallet back and you both gained a new friend. Win - Win in my book.

Kudos to you, islandbound and to the Dutch team who found and turned the wallet in. This is the kind of story that does all of us good and reminds us why this is and will hopefully always be, "The Friendly Island".

Thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Respectfully,

pat
