Terres Basses - Groceries

We will be renting a villa for a large group in Terres Basses. Can anyone tell me where we can get groceries at a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Elfie,

Your best bet is probably Le Grande Marche just before you cross the border between the French and Dutch sides of the island and just down the road from Port De Plaisance Resort. I think it's Union Rd. but could be mistaken on the name of the road. It's a full service grocery store with everything you would find here at home in one form or another and some of the products you only wish we could find at home. It's priced in dollars as opposed to Euros and has a great deli and bakery not to mention reasonable produce and such. The prices are slightly higher than those of at home but think about where you are and how it all got there and the pricing is actually quite reasonable. They also carry alcohol and wine of all varieties so it truly can be one stop shopping.

There are small stores along the way between the airport and Terre Basse but if you're really doing major shopping for a large group I think this is probably your best bet.

Respectfully,

pat

So now that I've actually posted, I see Elaine beat me to it. Great minds and all that, you know......

Also depends on where in Terres Basses you are staying - if you are staying closer to Marigot side then just after the Sandy Ground bridge there is the US Supermarket (I think that is the name) - on the left as you travel towards Marigot just after the bridge. The prices are a bit higher than Grande Marche and the selection not as wide - but it may be a lot closer depending where you are in Terres Basses.

To the OP,
Warwick is right that there are some closer stores that might be more convenient to where your staying but dont forget you will be paying in Euros shopping on the French side which could add about 30-40% to your bill. That might or might not make a diffrence to you.

We do the big stock up at grande marche, but I love US Imorts & Match for those gourmet goodies. They have wonderful cheese and charcuterie.

We love US Imports in Sandy Ground - on occasion. I didn't mention it in my original post because the OP stated "reasonable price". Guess it depends on your definition of reasonable, but the Euro is a killer.

A jar of French mayonaise is double the price at US Import vs Grand Marche.
