New Restaurants

We're going to St. M. the first 3 weeks of Nov. Are there any new restaurants that aren't overly expensive?

What area of the island would be convenient for you? There are a few that did open up that could be considered "not overly expensive" but I guess that's a particularly wide range without further defining. I heard that a new restaurant opened in the Atlantis Casino complex and I think it is called Manhattan. We will probably be trying it on our upcoming trip. It has been said that the food was good and that the prices were reasonable. The menu seemed to be varied including steak and seafood.

Then there is the new Greenhouse in the Pelican area. The pricing would, I assume, be comparable to the Greenhouse in Philipsburg which I have heard is reasonable as well.

As far as we are concerned, we usually stick with the tried and true restaurants that have withstood the test of time. The longer the restaurant has been there, the more consistent the food is and to me, this is worth it's weight in gold when on vacation. The restaurants we have enjoyed that are priced reasonably for the food delivered are simple places like The Sugar Cane Cafe, The Fashion Cafe, Pizza Pasta, Tortuga, and Le Croissanterie. For slightly more upscale pricing yet "very good" - "great food"... Paris Bistro, Bajatzu, Peg Leg Pub, Pineapple Pete's, and Toppers by the Sea. For fine dining where the food is superb and the price reflects this, La Gondola, La Vie en Rose, and Temptation.

Occasionally we have dabbled in a new restaurant that has gotten a good review but lately have been disappointed. That's why we don't dabble often.

See my trip report elsewhere on the Board. We visited several very new places in September.
Mooi of Welfare Rd, Orange Fever on Orient Beach, La Villa in Grand Case, Gabe's in the Middle Region, Le BZH Creperie in Oyster Pond, Poco Lolo in Oyster Pond.

We will be opening The Ocean Club Bar and Grill near the end of October. It is located at The Ocean Club in Cupecoy next to the Sapphire. We will be reasonably priced and if we're not let us know. Please stop by and say hello.

Try Quai Quest, in Oyster Pond. Excellent French food, laid-back (but friendly svc.), and NO stupid "service" charge. Go toward Capt. Oliver's, watch for sign on right. We loved it. Also Mama Pizza is terrific (on main road) in Oyster Pond.

That's good to hear Mr. Donaldson. There are quite a number of people who stay at the Ocean Club that were questioning when anything would be opening so at least I know that this can be answered with the affirmative. Good luck in your venture and if you can somehow let us know what your food selections would be, I would be interested. We are at Rainbow and so it's just a short distance away to make a visit.

New low-midrange priced:

IZI opened today in Simpson Bay. They serve a variety of fresh pasta, David from La Gondola in Cupecoy is the owner. Choose a type of pasta and a sauce that goes with it. The menu is in the form of a matrix, with slots for pasta/sauce selections that go well together.

Also open now: Tijuana Cantina (former Tijuana Yacht Club) - new management & staff, and new Mexican menu.

For beach fare: ribs, burgers, etc - La Bamba on Kim Sha Beach.

Already mentioned: Mooi, at Simpson Bay Porta del Sol across from Dolphin Casino.
