Verizon Cell Phone Service

Friends of mine just returned from 2 wonderful weeks. Weather was great and they had a marvelous trip. Their only problem was their Verizon cell phone did not work despite doing all the things they were told to do to program before they left. They like me have used Verizon in years past with no problem. Has anyone else experienced the same problem. 80 days till our return to paradise! Thanks.

On what side of the island did they stay? I know that Verizon did not work for me on the French side but did on the Dutch side.

Vicki, I've been reading elsewhere that Verizon isn't working at all on the island any more. This is apparently a recent development. I hope it's resolved before our Thanksgiving trip, because David's usually on call for work.

My friends stayed at Mount Vernon at Orient, but apparently had problems all over the island.

I have been on the dutch side since 7/14 and there is no verizon service. I have been here many times before and always had service. I have spoken to verizon and they said the provider is working on the problem. It is now 8 days and counting with still no service. I would suggest anyone coming here look for another provider.

We had the same problem, last May we had service, this past May none. What ever the problem is, I hope they have it resolved before we return in October. Either way, can't way to come back

I am able to access any voice mail messages that are left on my Verizon cell phone thru that phone, but have to use my rental phone from Sharon to return any calls to the States.
