Hello Philippe,

Thanks for taking the time to keep us up to date on this. It is great news, for islanders and tourists alike, that an effort is being made to address the crime problem.

I told you I was feeding them with "energy food"...grinning smiley LOL
Barbara, I am sure it would help a lot... I was talking with them and their mission is definitly to secure and clean up the French side, but they are totally conscient that the Dutch side is also in a dire need of action and were confused why the Marechaussee wasn't present... One of their "action planed" in case of a roberry (or another crime) happen in orient bay or Marigot or elsewhere is too block the borders to prevent the criminal to escape on the dutch side... so will see how it work..
They also told me that this "Mobile escadron of Gendarmerie" of 73 men is supposed to stay until July 30th... the plane they will take will bring a new mobile escadron of 73 too which will stay for three month... then again when those will leave new ones will come. It is not a temporary measure but basically a permanent one, since the mobiles will not leave definitly the island until their mission is complete, which is "clean up, secure and establish a safe environement" ( so yo know they won't leave....)
The French President Nicolas Sarkozy is also "expected" to "may be" do a "surprised visit" to St Martin in the next few days... (but no official words, just "suppositions or "under ground info) Not that will change the situation, but maybe when official move it means something.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Philippe, this is so encouraging! We spend most of our days and many evenings on the French side, even though we "reside" on the Dutch side when we are on the island. I am confident that the improvements on the French side will be felt on both sides!

Keep serving that good high energy food, Philippe. Maybe an occassional fried banana with chocolate sauce for each criminal they catch.
