I do not post any comments too often but the concern about being followed is maybe to keep in the back of your mind as on any holiday taken or even at home.

You don't wear anything eye catching either day or evening that would tempt some one to follow and rob you. I wouldn't do it at home either. When out keep your wits about you. At home we do this also. Yes there are always people out there who might steal from you but in 14 years going to the island we have had very few incidents and our time is peak time mid Dec to mid Jan for a month, sometimes 5 weeks in total. We have been there when two hurricanes went through one after another and the island was a mess. We practice the same there as home in safety. If you are not sure about something ask the workers in the stores or talk to police. They are quite willing to tell you where you should stay away from.
You don't need to be too concerned if you do this. We went to Curacao in April. All we heard we needed to be worried about was possibly pick pockets. However saying this friends of ours went out for the day on a day trip booked through the hotel and while they were gone on the Beaches Resort no less,
their credit cards were all stolen from their SAFE in their room. Crime is every where. It can't take over your holiday. You might just stay home if that is all you worry about. We have always felt reasonably safe and are all over the island when we are there.
