Hello again Friendly Forum Members,

I was reading the restaurant page where I saw that one couple had to seek refuge at a restaurant do to having been followed from where they got in there car.

Can anyone update me as to what these "followers/stalkers" have in mind or think they can do?

thanks

J

I completely realize that, but not everywhere do you hear about someone being followed, I was just curious as to whether or not the locals could be specific or know what the followers purpose was. I have heard crazy stories about how far the timeshare sellers will go so I was hoping that might be it. Personally not too worried as my s/o-fiancee' is retired Air Force with arms the size of hamhocks. Guess curiousity got the best of me.

I'm confused about what you read and where. Can you post a link to the thread where you read this?

It is actually from this site under restaurants and when you click on the "web surfers" site it is under "Dining experiences in sxm may and nov 2008 [feb 27,2009] it says, and I quote at Les Boucaniers that chef nicholas and wife frances "provided refuge when we were being led and followed by suspicious vehicle when leaving the Marina Royale to return to the Sapphire"

Just a weird statement and I had hoped someone could clarify what happens or might have been happening at that time.

Thanks so much!

Paranoia perhaps on the part of the poster? Who knows at this point 6 months later. Could of been something and could of been there imagination to.

While I have never heard of such a thing, if we were ever in a position like that where we felt the least bit uncomfortable, we would definitely stop at the nearest refuge. Better safe than sorry.

There have been incidents of tourists being followed in their rental cars and robbed in recent yrs. If you think your being followed or another car bumps yours do not stop. Drive to a safer area or to your hotel before getting out.As said before SXM does have a serious crime problem and tourists have been robbed. I'm sure you will not have a problem but act as you would at home. good luck........P.S. Don't forget to write a trip report and let us know how your vacation was.

Thanks so much to all- and of course I will definitely be posting about our time on the island.

One more question on the crime subject; are firearms involved?

Are the local police any good at controlling the crime?

IMO, you won't have a problem. Also in recent times most restaurants are empty by 10:00PM.Most tourists are usually back at their hotel or TS after dinner and not driving around the island.

Pretty combative reply to a simple post concerning your pontificating. Why don't you tell us how you came to your conclusion. Did you do a survey? If you're back at your resort after dinner, how do you know what goes on, and by whom "out there". Who are all those other people we run into in the casino's and bars. Guess they must be special too!
