I think the smaller one is the first original runway with the first original building for Juliana Airport. We saw it in another old post card from 1955 or so... if you look closer I beleive you can see the first small airport building in this picture too

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Wow! I just love "back in the day" photos!
This one pre-dates the Concord? Caravanserai? & Mullet?
Amazing to see the difference today!

IMO, the photo was taken before the 70's maybe from the 40's or 50's I enjoyed the charm of the original airport before the ticket counter addition on the right side was built. The open roof top restaurant section was great. The original plane watching location/bar.Thanks Barbara.

It's not that old Bob. I have the card and the guy who took the picture was someone who was doing that in the mid sixties maybe

Barbara, It really looked to me as if it was before the 60's.Looks like Mullet Bay Beach Hotel is in the picture. Also on the right it appears as if you could walk across on a sand bridge.

What an amazing picture! I remember helping to unload the DC3 cargo planes at the old airport. The lagoon was pristine and teaming with fish. This picture predates Mullet Bay. Hard to tell, but it looks like Mr. Parker may have just gotten started on the Concord Hotel (Maho Beach). I would say this was somewhere between 1967 and 1969. The old timers will remember the cockfights off to the right (next to the lagoon) on the airport road at the south end of the runway. Okay, too much information!!! Those were THE DAYS!

I agree great DAYS on SXM before TS overbuilding and being discovered.Looks as though some buildings are in that area but no high rise.I remember we used to walk from the airport to Mullet Bay And they're were no buildings in between just sand.Remenber how dark the island was at night and only a few cars on the roads. We used to drive at night from Little Bay Beach hotel to play blackjack at the only other casino at Mullet Bay.My first trip to Dawn Beach was Jan 79 and it was a wonderful remote beach and the dirt road was terrible. On the beach a guy had setup a wooden plank as a beach bar. Very few tourists around in those DAYS.
