morning everyone...
we are leaving for SM in a week & just found out through an on line newsletter from our home resort, Royal Islander Le Plage, that they had significant damage to the their resort during Omar in October 08; this is the 1st I've heard of it. My Husband & I knew Mexico had sustained damage, but had no idea how hard hit SM was. I called RCI to ask them who was responsible for communicating with the owners about a situation like that; they deferred to Royal Islander.
I called yesterday & spoke with Member Services and ask why we weren't notified of the damage, we have a unit on the ground floor that supposedly was pretty much destroyed...according to the newsletter the resort is slated to reopen tommorow 2/14/09, we are arriving 2/21/09. I was very concerned about the lack of communication from the resort.
Can anyone tell me that has recently been to the island what kind of shape it is in. I have not heard good things at all about the increase in crime & drug laundering. Any information you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated.

You may have not been notified, since your week wasn't affected by the closure. We were notified since we are week 45. Check out the pictures taken at the opening yesterday.

Next, relax, you have brand new everything on the first floor. Your unit is better than the other floors.

Lastly, when you own a place on a Carribean island, it is a good idea to keep an eye on it during hurricane season.
