What does the french side do?
Do they have the same problem going on now?

Nope.. no problems here. The French side electricity is provided by the EDF company (Electricite de France) which is a partially public and partially "State Controled" company,and they sometime sell some electricity to GEBE, which is why there is this big trasformer at the border on Union Road.
