Thanks for posting that. Despite the damage, other reports of the old SSBB being gone are not true. Looks like the same damage after Lenny in 1999. The basic strucure is still there. I was there during Lenny. The Carvanaserai (spelling?) had just been "finished" and was destroyed. The workers were so sad. Here we are again in the same situation. Rebuilt, but not good enough to withstand mother nature. After having been there through Lenny and seeing the damage, my husband and I would always walk through these last few years, and say, what are they thinking? We saw Mary's Boon totally destroyed, watched them build it back, and thinking, it will take a cat 5 to take out the cement they put in. Hope it held up. Thanks to this forum for all these years for really keeping us up to date on island happenings. After Lenny, it was here I was able to find comfort from the locals. I haven't posted much over the years, but really want to thank you all for your honest, unbiased information. For those of you reading this travelling to the island for the first time, please do not change your plans. If you can get a room and have a flight, you will have a great experience. The people of SXM are special, and you will have a great, unique time. Thanks again to all of you for all of your input over the years. And to you Andrea, thank God for the sea wall, and your wonderful spirit!

Here are a few pictures that my friend took when he stopped by the other day. Check out the water levels on the houses. Some of these houses are ACROSS the street and down the block from us!

All in all I'm a bit relieved just to see them. They aren't good. But, not as bad as I was imagining. Work has already started and it really starts in earnest tomorrow when the back hoe starts leveling the yard.

Ah, and yes, as Barbara said, there is a santa claus (there OBVIOUSLY is a Scrooge!)... the hammocks survived! grinning smiley

Thanks again to everyone who let me sound off my stress over the last several days. And, thanks also to all my friends on SXM - new, old, and those I've never even met, who have been SO very helpful as well.

peace smiling smiley

Our hammocks have survived EVERY hurricane, except Georges. And, that's because the palm trees that they were attached to became airborne and ended up in God knows where!

And, yes, B, you've been a HUGE support to me through this! Tons of thanks to you!!!!thumbs up
