Barbara, Funny but I met a guy who actually lived close to us on L.I. at the Mullet Beach Golf/Bar. Was it named the 19th hole or something different I can't recall. But this guy brought down with him 2 cases of Absolute Vodca (sp) because he was afraid SXM won't have his favorite. He paid the bartender $2.50 for each setup. Those were the DAYS.

How about the people who ask if its safe to stand behind the jets taking off. Or do THEY speak engish there or how's the weather. Another one of my favorites is do THEY celibrate Thanksgiving & New Years on SXM.

I forgot to add the question people would ask if there are any good restaurants in Grand Case.

A few years ago, someone asked William and I, where was "the bridge"... So we responded there was one in Marigot and one in Simpson Bay and that they were opening at this and this hour.... The lady said...: "No the other bridge... the one that all those cars use to come down here!"... I am not kidding! We went in a long and embarassing explaination that St Martin had no bridge linking us to the American Continent and that we were not part of the Floridians Keys. She looked at us totally confused and we are convinced she thought we were fooling with her LOL...

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Bob, I love the story about the guy who brought cases of absolute vodka.
very funny
and the one about the holidays.. we get that all the time.. people cannot understand why Thanksgiving is not celebrated down here..and also 4th of July.
I cannot remember the number of times I have had to explain that.

Barbara, I agree I can't believe tourists book a trip to the carib (different country)and think it should celebrate American holidays.I've told this true story before about the woman next to me on flight 667 20 yrs ago.She brought down a totally cooked Thanksgiving dinner with her on the plane.

I am usually in theBahamas on Thanksgiving and there are quite a few people that bring turkeys down with them on the plane. I also remember that story about the guy with cases of absolute-but have to bring one other thing up. When I first started coming to SXM in the early 80's Budweiser beer was not easily available and my brother used to bring a couple of cases with him-his luggage was much lighter going home-boy was he glad when he was able to find it on island
