Actually I am repeating my post from the other huricane thread since in fact it was intended to be on this one instead... sorry:
I just look at the website Stormpulse.com and that's true, overall it is a great website for tracking, actually very impresive and seems to be accurate in the path the hurricane are or will be taking.
But I look at the archive and how confused I was when I notice that it show Luis as a category 3 over SXM and Lenny as a category 1 ...
I definitly felt both of them a "little bit" stronger than that...

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Phillipe, With regard to Luis, I wonder if that's just because of how long it went on with the island in the eyewall. Surely, for that duration, there were times when the wind was much stronger. Certainly the wind gusts that shook The Belvedere on the ground floor were more than 130!

With Luis, it was not just the strength, but it went on forever. Thirteen years later and there are more memories and images of that vacation than the one I took this spring. The bad times, the good times; they will never go away.

But back to Barbara's original post, ain't it amazing what has progressed in 13 years! Here we were in the middle of this catastrophe and were yanked out. We had no way of knowing what was going on or even what had really happened to us. There was no real coverage of this in the US. No contact with other people who had gone thru this.

Gert undertook an great humanitarian cause when he started this board. I'm sure that those who have interest in the T&C and lower Bahama's will appreciate it.

I finally scanned in some old pictures from March of 1996. We were so anxious to get down to SXM to see what Luis did.

Wow... amazing pictures. I forgot how in march 96 the island was still in a poor shape, at least for some part of it which didn't recovered as fast as other area.

Thanks for making the photo show Pauline..I think.smiling smiley
I forgot how bad the place really looked..even months after.
I know that's the way Turks and Caicos and Cuba look now...probably even worse.
