Is there a newspaper for the French side that is published in English?

I noticed that the Houses for Rent in the Herald are all properties on the Dutch side. I was looking for a newpaper on the French side that also has classifieds but it needs to be in English......a newspaper for the French side but written in English?

I had heard about a publication called the St. Martins Weeks...but I am not sure if the word was "weeks".... the phone combined with a strong French accent created a problem in comprehension for moi!!

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Yes it is St Martin Weeks. The newspaper is in French but at the end of it you will find two or three pages of classified in both French and English. Realised though that property for rent on the French side will be in Euro which relatively and considerably increase the money to be spend if your incomes are in US$.
St Martin Weeks is publish on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Philippe,
Is there an on-line version of St. Martin Weeks?

Oh no... already it is barely what we can call a "news" paper, so no online version...

Thanks for the information!! I will look for the St.Martin Weekly when I arrive next Wednesday. Is it available on the Dutch side? Where can I find a copy of this?

Also, I understand the conversion of rents from Euros to US$ makes things more expensive.....but the little bit I can determine before I arrive to SXM suggest that even with the conversion rents seem comparable or still a bit cheaper on the French side.....of course I could be wrong but from my early inquiries I find the rents reasonable even with this conversion.

Thanks again for the useful information!

I had a conversation once with a waiter that works on the French side, but refuses to live there, he lives on the Dutch side, whether they rent or own IDK. But something about the taxes???

For the time being, there is no property tax on the Dutch side which makes it extremely afforable for anyone once they purchase the property. The French side does charge property taxes yearly.

Taxes on the French side are far from what they can be in the USA... Much more cheaper for what I had experienced.
The waiter in question may try to escape taxation even on its income... If he doesn't reside on the French side, he may not appear on the tax system files, and then his income maybe under the table, then he doesn't have to file for it... It maybe what he meant by "tax issue" and "refused to live on the French side"...eye rolling smiley We have a bunch of people like that around here...

Kind Regards,
Philippe
