Yes, Brad and Neil sold it to someone else. I know they still owned it in June 2001. As I recall it, "someone else" at one time tried to sell shares in the business.

Famous beach bar along side the main runway at Juliana Airport is a favorite watering hole at Maho Bay. Recently changed hands for over $1 million, I can understand why. Reasonable prices, friendly bartenders, great views. Grill chef needs some help, his long hours are ofter reflected in his attitude.

Maybe Neil and Brad owned that company in 2001... since usually for protection the "company" owned the lease not the "physical person". Then sold the company (with the lease...) to someone else, I beleive a group of French people, who sold the company (with the lease) to Rehak. Then the company became "Rehak's company" since he onws it.I think it is just a "syntaxe writting thing..". the company who operated in 2001 was the same than the one Rehak owns now, even though it was own by someone else at that time.
That's the way I read it, but I maybe wrong....If it is the case, then the taxes owed can be owed since very long time, even before rehak purchased the company. It happen a lot around here, that's the reason why it's alway better to start your own, than to buy an already established one.

Interesting, but troublesome.
Let's say I bought a business for one million dollars and took over a lease.
The property owners don't like me or the way I run my business.
The property owners evict me and take back the lease.
Then they take my business upgrade it and take my customers and change the name slightly. Something doesn't sit right with this scenario.

I hear you... I specially don't like the last sentence of the article:

It doesn't give a very attractive view to potential foreign investors, what ever the story is, to do business down here and invest.... I wonder to know who is this "well-know local businessman"!!! It seems like in any case if the owner want to find some fault at charge to the tenant or some sort of breach of contract it's always possible... specially when a "well-known bussinessman" with certainly a lot of clout (and money to squeeze under the table) is interested in the spot...
I don't know all the "how and why" but it seems that caravanserail is a "serial get ride of it" (LOL... just palying with the words..).

The tax issue is another issue... If the company was bought with past due taxes, the new owner is responsible of them. He should have bought the company with (I don't recall the exact name..) a document delivered by the tax departement to the notary certifying that payments are up to date... If he didn't get that , then he was screewed. Or he is the one who cumulated NAF 1.6 million of unpaid taxes in 3 or 4 years? WOW... I knew that was a great business but...
