Barbara, I noticed that huge complex last month, not that it's easy to miss. Any idea what it is to become?

Unfortunately, construction continues unabated even around Oyster Pond. The area to the area to the west of Oyster Pond Estates behind Casa Blanca is slated for 50 homes, while the large plot of land across from CB will supposedly close this summer. The buyer is apparently petitioning the French Govt. to amend the green zoning that restricts it. Hopefully, they will not give in.

Given the current economic climate, with 2200+ new condos in progress on the Dutch Side, I wonder what will happen when/if it turns out the developers guessed wrong about demand. Overdevelopment is bad, but partially-completed and vacant eyesores are worse. Only time will tell...

Barbara
Are you referring to the mall next to the Marigot Market?
We walked in there in the middle of the day last week and I think we were the only ones in there.
I went in there because I thought I read about this really expensive restaurant that people rave about. I can't think of the name. I wanted to check out the menu, but I could not find it. Is there another large mall in Marigot?

Lynn,
Yes that is the large mall Barbara was referring to. The expensive restaurant is now closed.

Lynn, the restaurant in the mall was Le Gaïac. Closed for some time now.

To me the only way any mall would work is if they had a VERY big draw (1 store that has proven itself), similar to the malls at home. Without this main attraction, there is little interest a vacationer would want when they could be spending their day at the beach or sailing. A store similar to Rimas or even a large supermarket would help to make it work but without the big draw, people would not come nor spend. I know that when I go to a large store in a mall, I can't help but window shop before or afterwards and there is always something to catch my eye but without the lure of this big store, I would have no interest to venture in that direction.

Barbara and Pat, Le Gaiac was an experience. I believe the restaurant of the same name on St. Barth's is the transplanted version. Prices at Le Gaiac- SXM were pretty steep. I can only imagine they have climbed higher with the new zip code.
