Sure......
US Airways to cut jobs and add fees
June 12, 2008

"US Airways said Thursday that it plans to reduce its fourth-quarter domestic capacity by 6% to 8% and will cut its staff by about 1,700 employees as a result.

The flight cuts will mainly impact the airline's Las Vegas operations. Effective Sept. 3, night flights out of Las Vegas will be eliminated, except for limited service to the East Coast.

As a result, overall daily departures from Las Vegas will drop to 81 (down from 141 in September 2007) and will drop further to 74 by the end of 2008.

In addition, the carrier plans to reduce its 2009 domestic capacity by 7% to 9%.

The reduced capacity will force the elimination of 1,700 positions, including 300 pilots and 400 flight attendants."

That's not great news about USAir. Next thing we know they'll only have one flight to SXM!!confused smiley

Just read an article in the Business section of MSNBC on-line---and Delta is reducing its work force---by 4000---with severance package incentives--- mostly administrators and such----but also front end people such as ticket counter personnel-----also cuting back flights in and out of Las Vegas--I sure wish Amtrak went to SXM----chbpod

Talking about airlines cutting back. Did anyone else notice how difficult (nasty) the AA ticketing personel are since Arrindale (sp) took over AA's ticket counter. I couldn't believe how they talked to us with no respect at all.WOW how SXM has changed from the DAYS.Its not the "friendly island" anymore.

Yeah.. I noticed that today, actually, while purchasing some ticket and they didn't wanted to seat us side by side, caliming the seats were all reserved... I asked if they were paid for already, and since the answer was negative and that Iwe were paying ours, I requested to have priority over unpaid reserved passenger...I got it but with a lot of reluctance...
BTW, the appelation "friendly Island" was never meant historically for the fact that people were friendly and smiley but only because it was a first for two countries to share the same island (or land) with open border and no war to define them!...

Kind Regards,
Philippe
