Re: long term rental on St.Martin

Hello,

My husband and I are Canadians and will be taking our retirement in 5 years. We are now exploring the possibility of spending our winter months (January to end of May) where it's beautiful and warm (had really enough of the cold and the snow).

We would like to enquire about the possibility of renting for this period and this repetidly for many years in your beautiful island.

We are both fully bilingual (French and English). We will be able to afford between $1,500 to $2,000 CDN dollars per month. We are not looking for luxury, but just a 1 bedroom appartment with full kitchenette and bathroom. Do not need to be "ON" the beach either, but would be nice to have access to a pool if possible. It needs to be clean too.

We would also like to know how safe it is to live over there, espacially for "strangers" and is there health problems (yellow fever, malaria or Dingue fever). Another question, how expansive is it over there.

I can't wait to have your answers. Thanks in advance.

Line Allard

I think you need to contact some real estate agents.
try these:

Arun Jagtiani

Cell - 011 (599) 552-4663

Maayke Martina

since you are french Canadian you may be more interested though in rentals on the French side.
i do not have much information for that though.

I am interested in a long term (one year or more) house (not condo) rental away from the tourist areas to keep the cost down. I will be bring a six year old dog with me and working in Cupecoy. I understand if you work in St Maarten and live on the French side you have to pay taxes to both so St. Martin is not an option.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

PS. The post cited above is just above your post... but you seem not to care to even look at other posts in this threadthumbs down.
Moderators and just a few users do indeed live on the island but they have nothing for rent. Others are just vistors and rather rent than have something to rent smiling bouncing smiley .
As for churches and medical, I would suggest starting with google.com - no harm at all but answers will be more ellaborate than any ever seen on this forum. MHO.

Hello.
We are on the same path as the family above. We live in Los Angeles and we want a change. We are set to move to St. Martin in July of next year. We prefer the french side as my husband is French, but because he pays taxes in the U.S., we will not get the defiscalisation benefit.
Our kids are 10 and 6 and can speak french well but have never learned to write or read in French so I assume they would never be able to catch up. We are looking at the English schools as well. Any recomendations?
Also, we love the French Cul De Sac but it seems very far from most towns so we are wondering where we should rent.
Any location suggestions?
Thanks,
Jen .
