Re: long term rental on St.Martin

Hello again, Jen here. I am up late in L.A. because I am sleepless after reading the crime reports from St. Martin. I do not want to be paranoid, but we have 2 young boys who will be moving to the island with us. I am asking you, as the locals, what you feel about the increase in violent crime.
We live in an area in Los Angeles where I can walk alone at night, drive a nice car without worrying about being car jacked and I have never even heard of anyone being held at gunpoint within many miles of here. Will I be giving all of this up when we move to St. Martin?
Lastly, I am still searching for good schools with English as the first language.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Jen.

jen
i guess you probably dont read the newspapers out there or watch tv after stating that you have never heard of anyone held at gunpoint within MANY MILES OF YOUR LA residence.the crime in sxm is no different than anywhere else, very probably much much less than LA,NYC,Baltimore or washington. you have to be careful anywhere.

crime is everywhere. you have to worry about it but it is not as if we are afraid to go out anywhere.
if you want a good English speaking school, then I would suggest that the best choices would be one of the private schools here. They are quite expensive but are the best.
if you and your child do not have proper residency papers on the Dutch side, your child cannot be admitted to public schools.

Julius, I saw your posts on the other forum and I am glad to see you have found this one. I think you will have more success getting answers to your questions here, as this forum is run by people who actually live on the island. I do think you would have better luck getting a response if you start a new thread with your questions.

I wish you good luck!

Georgia

Hi Georgia
I think the only one who might have an answer to Julius question is Philippe.
I honestly know nothing abut French side rentals.

Julius, perhaps you could PM Philippe.
His name here is Tabba Khady.
I don't know how often he checks in here though/

Do you read French? here are french newspapers..maybe they have classifieds.

Thanks Barbara! When I saw his post over there, I knew he'd get better info here. Right now he's getting mis-information there, so your links will certainly be helpful.
