How I understand the article, it says the Jet Ski companies that are operating near the reserve naturelle and running jet skis over the fragile coral reefs are being fined. I always felt the jet skiers were endangering the reefs and the snorkelers when zooming back and forth.

"A Jet Sky Rental Company Owner Sentenced.
The Court Of St Martin's decision in date of May 13th, 2008, regarding commercial activity and Jet sky practice in the National Natural reserve of st Martin, condemn the Director of the Company to a 4000 Euros fine.
The director was accused to have practiced with his clients and without prior autorisation and illegal activity within the Natural reserve.
He is doubly (sp) condemned (sentenced..) for "irregular exercice of activity in a natural reserve..." and for " penetration within a natural reserve with disregard of its prohibition.." and end up with two fine of 2000 Euros each.
This exemplary sentence ( confused smileyeye rolling smiley...) should, we can hope, limit the illegal practice of jetskies in the natural reserve, and should make people conscient that the natural reserve is an area to be respected."

Oh boy!!!... They really think that 4000 Euro is exemplary and will make people thinking about environement versus $$$ ....They are utopist and irrealistic IMHO...

Kind Regards,
Philippe

It's about one particular company and it's director/manager. It's not in general... Orient Bay, Pinel, Tintamarre are in the Natural reserve, as well as Gd Case and Oyster Pond, and under the rules of thelittoral it is strictly prohibited to parctice commercial nauticals activities.
But, How many jetsky did you saw on Orient bay (natural reserve..), Pinel (natural reserve), Gd case (natural reserve)... ???
Oh oh... But those have autorisation, so they are not endangering the natural environement, because the reef and the coral are strongly protected by the $$$ that those jetsky are living behind them.
This company wasn't equiped with the special $$$ exhaust system, so it was fined.
ummmm in Italy I think there is a name for that... "Rachetto", and the English translation is "racket" grinning smiley

Kind Regards,
Philippe
