BobP..I thought the same thing at first but then read the post again and CarolV says:

lovely restaurant in Phillisburg with the giant palm tree growing through the middle of it-something Royale

so I think she must be talking about somewhere else.

I do agree with you about the wonderful part, though .

The restaurant with the Palm Tree Philipsburg... Was it maybe the West Indian Tavern? The Dutch Queen might have dined there once so they could have called it the Royal West Indian Tavern.

I remember Cafe Royal. It wa run by Renee Florijens. It was located on Front Street across from what was then called the Gucci building.
and it was next to the Methodist church

Back in the DAYS (80's) we must have walked into every place on FRONT ST but I can't recall that place.

Does anyone remember a restaurant on Front St. called Le Grenoille, it was owned & operated by Pierre, who later owned Le Perroquet (sp)?

Another restaurant, this one in Marigot, on Rue de Hollande, was La Diva, owned
& operated by Michel Lerousseau? Michel went back to France after he closed the restaurant

It was "La Grenouille" in front street, yes with Pierre from le Peroquet.
Michel sold his restaurant to a French Lady who later on opened "L'espellette" at that location, but it is true that soem time went on between the moment Michel moved back to France, sold, and it was reopened by this lady.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Just had to add this about Pierre at Le Paraquett and his attitude-ten of us went in there one night for dinner-we ordered a round of drinks and after they were delivered Pierre (God rest his soul) came out to tell us his specials. While he was standing there my friend poured her drink into one of the wine glasses because she likes her drinks in a stemmed glass. All of a sudden he started to scream at her "oh no madam that glass is only for red wine" Then he told us "we have delicious while asparagus tonight" Well, 8 of us ordered the side of asparagus-bill comes $12 for side dish of 4 asparagus ($96 total) At least the Ostrich was good. Just a wierd night. (do miss his cooking if not his attitude tho)
