Anyone have a suggestion for a good fresh fish restaurant. We don't eat meat and would like someplace that grills fresh fish

Most every place serves a few fish choices but if you really want fresh grilled fish w/o a lot of sauces and stuff the first suggestion would be Lee's Restraunt. Very good and very fresh seafood choices. I always ask what the fresh catch of the day is and order that and think its the safest way to go. And haven't ever had a bad fish there yet and really like the potato salad. Its not fancy, I mean as close to a picnic as you can get w/o the paper plants and the ants but its good grilled fresh fish.

I second that, Lee's is excellent, don't think you'll find any fresher. I just returned from a 14 day stay, and had red snapper at Lee's at least 3 times, has to be the best on the island!!!

On the left by the bridge as you enter the Simpson Bay area from the airport. It's an "open air" place. Heads up...finding parking can be difficult on a busy night.

Click on Island Map at the bottom of this page. Lee's is right near the "y" in Simpson Bay.

mespres,

You've gotten about all the information you could get about fresh grilled fish. But here's another possibility. If you have any fondness at all for grilled Caribbean lobster, Lee's has about the best I've had on the island.

You select your lobster from the tank and they weigh it in front of you. It goes away and comes back to your table, nicely grilled and basted in a garlic butter basting sauce. OMG, is it ever good.

Respectfully,

pat

The absolutely BEST fresh grilled fish I have had was at Gutside.

Elaine,

We'll have to give Gutside a try on our next trip so thanks for the heads up. Would you happen to know if they're open during the day or what their actual hours are? I'm wondering if, after a long day at Friar's, would a very late lunch, aka an early dinner there be an option before we head back to the 'other side' of the island?

TIA,

pat

Pat -

We went last during high season in February. At that time Richard was open for lunch and dinner. I believe they are closed on Wednesday. I think we had lunch about 2. Sorry, I don't know othe real hours!

Pat, we have had several great lunches at Gutside. Last November he was closed on Mondays. I am not sure what time he stops serving lunch but I do know if you show up and Richard is there he will definitely cook you something. If I remember correctly, he generally opens at six for dinner. Richard is a very nice man and has a lovely wife, Lourdes.

One of the best places for fresh grilled fish is "Johnny B's Under the Tree." The owner, Johnny, used to work at a restaurant that was destroyed during the hurricane several years ago. So, he decided to go into business for himself. He set up a "restaurant" in the front yard of his house, right under a tree! (Hence the name.) He is open for dinner most nights, and the menu includes grilled lobster and shrimp. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. Johnny's is also a good place to meet and talk with the locals, as it is very friendly.

A second for Johnny B; we go ther 2 or 3 or 4 times each trip.

Many of the beach bars have fish for lunches as well. We like Chez Raymond on Rouge beach, but there are others too.

Turtle Pier has a great lobster night. My wife and I went twice last year and we'll be going again this year!
