Has anyone stayed at this hotel lately? It has an All Inclusive option, but I wonder about the quality of the food?!?!?

I haven't stayed there, but have seen the rooms.. not bad.. try to get one of the newly renovated ones facing the pool if possible for a better view.. as for their all inclusive plan, there are restrictions.. for example, with the meals:

-Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner daily plus a
different theme night at the Ocean Terrace
Restaurant and/or A-la-carte *breakfast, lunch
and dinner daily at the Palms Grill Restaurant
(intercontinental cuisine). (*Breakfast in high
season only)
-A-la-carte nightly dining at the elegantly casual
The Point. Note: one time only at The Point
restaurant with a special inclusive menu-
minimum 7 night guests only with
reservations required.
-Unlimited alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks
(house brands only) from 11:00am to 11:00pm
($2.00 surcharge on certain premium brands).
-Complimentary entrance to casino show once per
week (drinks extra)
-Complimentary nightly entrance only to
Q Disco (drinks extra)

If you don't have to, don't go the all inclusive way.. hotel food is not as good as the food at all our excellent restaurants.. too many good places to eat on the island to go all inclusive.

to answer your question .......the food at the Sonesta is very good, buffet, Plams Grill, and 5 star restaurant The Piont are all included in your all inclusive package, PLUS you get to choose 2 evening meals for a weeks stay from restaurants in the Maho village, a few choices I can remember are, Paris Bisto (excellent), Sopanos (excellent), can't rmember the name, La something ? its next to the Royal Casino on the second level over looking the street, again another great place , there are a couple more but I didn;t try them and forget the names ...... St.Martin has great restaurants seldom do you hit a bad one, so go and check out what the island has to offer, but usually the all inclusive packages are not that much more $$ so it a very good deal at the Sonesta !!!!!

Don't waste your time with the Dutch side restaurants. Go to the French side for outstanding meals.

Barbara,

Clearly "Touch" is totally out of touch these days but thanks for saying what only an islander can say with absolute certainty and without room for criticism, since you'd be more apt to know this than most.

Respectfully,

pat

Well Pat, I am not out of touch.

Lee's....overcooked bland seafood
Pineapple Pete...ok for Lobster, the rest is forgetable
Halseys...the only bright spot of the bunch
Peg Leg Pub....was good a few years back. Service is now very slow and steaks have shrunk in size
Boathouse..a joke
Marys Boon...gone downhill fast
Bijatzu...Timeshare people love it, cause its close in Maho...its ok average at best
Pizza pasta....Olive Garden
Restaurants in Phillipsburg....go at night....hold on to your purse

well, it's all in the eye of the beholder, I guess, pat.
I would disagree with "out of touch" on almost all his opinions.and he forgot to mention a few too.
Daniels by the Sea
tabba Khady
Le Frigate.
Antoine's
Le Escargot.
Pasangrahan
Mark's Place
Yvette's
Le Bec Fin
La Rosa's
Temptation
Le Gondola
Rare
Le Montemarte

and the cheap shot about Philipsburg is just that..a cheap shot..

Barbara,

You know how I feel about anons - I will defend their right forever. But posts such as the above make me wonder....WHY?

And you're so right - the Philipsberg comment was a cheap shot.

Neither Marigot nor the French side in general are without their own set of problems along these lines so the comment might just as well have been directed there but again, why make it in the first place? There have been recent incidents (within the past six months) outside of Marios and the MiniClub and likewise, around the marina just to mention a few.

And to add to your list of very good Dutch side locations for dining don't forget:

Los Gauchos
The Hideaway
Chesterfields
The Greenhouse for lighter fare and pub foods.....

and so many more.....

Respectfully,

pat
:-) :-)

Just got back from 12 nights May11-23- stayed at La Terrasse in Maho---and we had excellent meals----some walking distance and some short cab rides--Pizza Pasta twice--- good as usual---Paris Bistro-- I had the Tuna- excellent-- plus the dance troupe from the Casino comes out and perfroms in the street-- a real treat---Monmartre?? my wife had her usual Dover Sole fix and I had fois gras and the kangaroo--- unlike Chinese food when you get hungray with in a hlaf hour I had this insatiable urge to go island-hopping-- (LOL) best veal chops ever at La Gondola---and a new find this year- Moulin Fou--- Tuna was wonderful and my wife has a second Dover Sole fix---all wonderful--Peg Leg Pub- our first time was also good--their bourbon steak I thought was excellent---didn;t try Bajatzu- Le Charolais or La Rose Too--- this year but they are within a short walk of the Sonesta---personally I don't care for buffets---plus on an all-inclusive you feel compelled to eat every night--some days we would go to Sunset Beach Bar-- and have their fabulous swordfish sandwich---or ribs - or chicken fingers---good sold pub food---and then we did not need to go out for dinner-- a few nights we just sat on out balcony and had crackers and cheese----again- and this is personal preference---why do an all-inlusive when there are so many fabulous restaurants within a short walk or a short cab ride-----this whole thing about the French side- versus the Dutch side--should not be a controversy--I guess Touch is one of those snobs---who likes to boast about paying more for his meals (Hello Euros) on the French side than admit that there are high quality restaurants on the Dutch side----I can;t do anything about Touch's arrogance and ignorance----let it be known- that a number of restaurants on the Ducth side originated on the French side or at least their Chef's started out there----it is a mystary to me that the quality of their food declined when they brought their menu across the border--- the mind just boggles--Clark

Restaurants on the Dutch side are as good as the ones on the French side, may be a bit of a better value for the money. By far and large the whole of SXM is a great destination for food.
