Cupecoy...Oh my !!!

Just returned and need to let all know how disappointing the Cupecoy area is. I beleive I saw sale/marketing signs for 5, maybe 6, townhome/timeshare/whatevers currently being built. The Cliff is the monster and I'm afraid the Cupecoy Yacht Club will be just as bad. After passing the Atlantis Casino, heading west bound, "all Hell" has broken loose...building everywhere...new road routing to get up the hill to the La Samana area. Absolutely could not believe the digging and filling going on from Simpson Bay over to the ocean. Future traffic in that area concerns me. The poor Citrus market area which once had a reasonable view is dwarfed amongst the gargantuans. Off my soap box...contemplating selling my Towers timeshare, maybe give it away, and find an island that reminds me of what SXM once was. Painfully, spike. PS. spent too much of every day sitting still in traffic...Marigot and Simpson Bay were the worst as was the P-burg area in general. I plan to write again with the +'s once I calm down a bit. Sorry for the "vent" but I had to let it go to others who care about the island as much as I/we do.

Hey Spike - I agree with you that the Cliff is oversized but I have seen the detailed plans of the Cupecoy Yacht Club development (and the prices!!!). I think in the long run it will be a great improvement over the dismal strip of road and the field between the Sapphire and the La Samana Hill.
If you ever want to sell your Tower's time share you will have no problem selling it. I have been going to the Towers for years. Compared to the grief at Atrium and Sapphire - the Towers is still the best time share on the island. Look on the bright side!!

How is the area next to where Danny has his ribs and chicken BBQ? We always enjoy spending a day or 3 there.

There's a high rise, guessing 8 floors right on the rocks above the Cupecoy beach...a shell of a bulding right now but a distraction to the once natural beauty of the Cupecoy rocks and caves.

Hya Spike (Cupecoy too)

We must have been on the Island same time. We all too agree about the Cupecoy Area. The only time on the Island that tears came to our eyes........

Watch this: "The Cliff" "Rainbow" "Shorepoint" "Cupecoy Yacht Club" (and then maybe new plans for Mullet Bay ????) All High Rises. All even critized by the recent Queen visit.

Where are they gonna put all these cars ?????

Count up the rooms, villas, and whatever else these developers wanna call it.
Conservative figgure will be 10,000 additional cars on the Island. (took us one time about 1 1/2 hours from Mullet Bay to P'Burg).

This Island is soon gonna be ONE BIG PARKING LOT. Get in yer car at 8:00 AM, drive towards P'Burg.....if you dont get there in 6 hours....break out the sleeping bags.....LOLOLOLOL

You guys can e-mail us
We have no reason to hide our love for the Island or how to contact us....

DONT STOP THE CARNIVAL !!

We Bought in 94 at the Saff. I remember walking down the natural Cupecoy Beach in the evening after a sunset at the cliff (95), Quiet, peaceful, natural, no huge buildings over your head. Peaceful days laying in the sand, naked in the cave bothered by no one. Ironically the SBC was probably the first nail of many in the coffin. Now if you go to the cave some A Hole from the "New" monstrosity over your head is screaming at you to put your clothes on or the guards walking the grounds gualk over the cliff at your women.
Hmmm guess my weeks are are for sale!! LOL

Colin...Can't believe you consider that piece of road from the Sapphire aroud and up to La Samanna "dismal"??? To me, it was not at all dismal...but had character...SXM character. The famed Cupecoy wall, where we've all parked at one time or another, is on its way down as we speak...that wall was all about SXM character. That whopping S curve at a 45 degree climb as you cross into the French side had character...SXM character. The new climb/road has none. What a shame...ahhhh...progress at its worst...IMHO !!! Ka-Ching...the sound of progress ($$$$$) !!

And, there's already a water shortage problem. There was an article in the DH last week about it.

Regarding next to where Danny is - At the moment, it's still vacant and it's where everone parks their car. But that's gonna be gone too.

I was robbed at gunpoint down the street from Sapphire Beach Club in St Martin on the left side of the road that shows a hand painted sign (BEACH) Tourists beware!!!! Will never step foot in ST. Martin again. Island has lots of robbery, Tourists beware, when I was in a pharmacy the day after the robbery replacing stolen items, a customer in the pharmacy said she was robbed the night prior, they had broken in the front door while they were sleeping. We feel we were followed fron the Sapphire Beach Club and it was an inside job (possibly employee related knowledge).

We now venture down island more where we find the much smaller islands take care of their tourists, stay away from cruise ship ports and you will be safer.

Do your research on island crime and see what St Martin has to offer for crime, I bet you find it's higher than you think. Make sure you insure your stuff before stepping foot on the island.

Sunshine, When did this happen to you? The reason I ask is that back in November they caught a couple of robbers who had been brandishing guns during robberies in the Cupecoy area.

Sunshine,

What time of the day was it and do you have any more details. This is very upsetting and I am considering if I will ever go back to St Martin.

Cupecoy Yacht Club

My wife and I just returned from St. Martin, and while we have invested in a condo at the Cupecoy Yacht Club, and I find the progress there gratifying, I must admit that the traffic on the island has become unbearable.

The Cupecoy Yacht Club development looks fantasic. It will have a supermarket, restaurants, marina with water sports, as well as a water taxis service (which we will use to avoid driving whenever possible) a spa, tennis courts, and pool. We hope that we won't be driving too much when the project is complete.

While in St. Martin we were always delighted with the friendlyness of the people.

We loved Layla's and the Marigot marina's restaurants.

I do lament at the increased construction around the island, but that is what happens when developers get the upper hand over quality of life controls.

The new airport was lovely and so much more pleasant then the old smaller airport, which shows that new construction can be beneficial if done correctly.

I am still totally surprised that the Mullet Bay golf course area has not been re-built. It is such a natural for a low rise development again.

Will be returning next year and offer our comments then. Until then, be well and take care.
