Hi All
With the latest muslum terrorist activity...(get a life please)... What will be the policy on the flying liquor stores that exit St Maarten?? I would feel safer with it in the cargo hold(personally)! Any new experience?

According to one of the SXM newspapers, the tourists are window shopping rather than buying and that sales are almost non-existent. Until the rules are relaxed sales will be dismal.

Well, you won't be able to bring it on the plane. Do you want it in your checked luggage? A nice present for a TSA agent!

We've never "lost" a bottle in our checked luggage from 1996-2005.

Two bottles of MaDouDou safely made it to the US in my checked bag on Saturday.

The Herald made it sound like the perfume and liquor duty free stores might not survive much longer.

Just came back today and all 5 bottles survived in the checked bag.. we traveled with a soft side cooler that we brought down to the beach during the 2 weeks.. then for the flight back, wrapped the bottles in clothes, and put 3 of them in the cooler.. the other two, wrapped in clothes, and used beach shoes as added cushions from the bottom and sides of the small suitcase i put them in..

You definitely cannot bring them onboard as carry-on luggage.

We just returned from SXM, and we packed our purchased liquor in our checked bags. I brought some bubble wrap with me and Price Club on Front Street also offered bubble wrap and other protection for checked bags. Even before the latest restrictions, I packed stuff in our soft-sided cooler and suitcases -- wrapped in bubble wrap and/or t-shirts. Everything has survived over the years.

As for the airport stores -- they are clearly being hurt, but one owner told me that when the new terminal opens (this month?), the stores will be able to have your purchases delivered to the gate as checked baggage.

That's good news! I don't bring alcohol home, but I know that lots of folks do, and I hated to know that the airport shops were suffering. I have a somewhat off-topic question: I've read a lot recently about item being stolen from checked luggage. I've never had that happen to me; is it really commonplace?
