St. Maarten Rum Drink - Recipe

Just got back from a great cruise vacation, where we stopped by St. Maarten and picked up several homemade bottles of assorted rums, bottles handpainted with artwork - rum with banana/vanilla, rum with coconut, rum with chocolate, etc. They're great! Want to buy more or make up a batch of our own.....

Forgot where we bought these bottles, somewhere on Front Street, next to Jimmy Buffett's place. Anyone know the source for these rum mixes, or better yet, the recipes?

It sounds like you bought bottles of Ma Dou Dou Mark. Ma Dou Dou is a locally made flavored rum, usually sold in various sized hand painted bottles. The true Ma Dou Dou Rum can be recognized by a small swatch of plaid fabric wrapped around the cap and a small rectangular sticker on the bottom (rear) of the bottle (describing the flavor).

We just recently returned from our yearly trip and were at the Ma Dou Dou factory location near French Cul De Sac. We usually make our purchases there, but it is sold at many many places on the Island (including Supermarkets, Airport, and some shops in Phillipsburg).

Ma Dou Dou is rather difficult to get via the Internet and even more difficult to make homemade. (but both can be done). Why not just make it an excuse to do another trip to St. Maarten ? <laughing>

The store on Front St. catering to Parrotheads is called "Last Mango in Paradise". It isn't owned by Jimmy B, but is licensed to sell all of his "stuff". It always has a rather neat collection of up-to-date Buffett clothing and paraphernalia.
The store is on Bobby's Marina end of Front St. and is easily recognized by the Shark Statue out front and the Buffett tunes playing on thier sound system.

You're advice is right on the money. Going back to St. Martin is definately the best and most fun way of getting Ma Dou Dou rum. BUT, since I can't get back for a while can you tell me where to find it via the internet or a recipie to make it?

I agree. Purchasing directly from MaDouDou Rum in French Cul de Sac is the best and quirkiest! We love doing it every year when we're on the island.
