John, I think it must be a misunderstanding of what was stated in prior posts because you can work in your own business if you have a work permit for it. When you own or built a business you have few options. I did answered to AlanB in
that thread in regards to a question he had about "those who want to emigrate and don't need a job or need to start a business, and want a residency permit, but could change their mind once here and wanted to start a business venture". I said that people can apply for residency permit under "retirement status" but if they decide then to start a business you have two solutions:
The first one is to own the business, don't work in it at all, just collect the profits (if there are any) on their bank account, and then
maintain their retirement status (But to remember that they are not allowed to work in their own business because they are under "retirement status"- if they caught them working they will be deported no matter if they have a residency permit which is not valid if they work, because it is "retirement status"...
The second is to apply for work permit and relinquish their retirement status, which mean start the processs all over again (without any garranty you will be approved...).
But if people do not seek "retirement status" in the first place, but an investor status or work status it is very different. They can buy an already existing business or built their own (following the rules of course!!!) and then apply for "director License" and apply for a work permit through their director license... It is what Neil had, certainly what the owners of Peg Leg have, and what William and I had when we operated our businesses in the Dutch side.
Kind Regards,
Philippe
