Their seems to be a lull in crime now,however when we vacationed in sxm Easter week, their were two individual shoot outs. One in downtown Philipsburg One at the Atlantis casino. In broad day light.both had the same mot is operandi. Two individuals on motor bikes. One yielding a machete,the other a shotgun.
If you really want to get a bead on crime in sxm, access the Daily Herald online. p.s.:when the restaurant proprietors state the crime is getting worse.crime is getting worse.MHO.

How did this thread surface again? Original post was June 2000. If it comes to I have to ask a restaurant proprietor of the crime status on this Island, then it means I did not do my homework and should not be there anyway.

St. Maarten is not for everyone. But for some of us, it is home. If we could change the way the world is today or switch back to the way St. Maarten once was, I think most or all of us would. But we can not. St. Maarten is no better nor no worse that any other part of the world.
