Does anyone know if Sunset Beach bar is open now ? We were there in january 2010 and it was open then but I hear that it closed sometime during 2010 for good.

The bar made out of a boat is at the other end of Maho Beach from Sunset Bar and Grill. It's called Guys Driftwood Boat Bar, or some combination of those words! Way better deal than SBAG with the same view!
The food and drink at Driftwood is both reasonable and well prepared. As of yet I have not heard of any health problems. If you have the best facilities on the Island and staff don't follow proper hygiene what's the difference ?
We spend a lot of time there, the cook is always cleaning. Antonio comes in early in the AM and scrubs, sprays and gets the place ready for the day. Water is always available for hand washing and disposable glasses are used in the bar.
Give the place a break and enjoy it for what it is....a beach bar.
This end of the beach has become a day trip stop for tourists from the cruise ships. Beginning about 11 am buses, taxis and vans arrive loaded with what appears to be passengers. The traffic on the road by the runway can be intense, walking on the road dangerous and trying to take pics requires learning to dance amongst the throng.
Couple of weeks ago we watched as a large group of possibly 12 opened blankets and proceeded to enjoy the beach by Sunset with what appeared to be every item on McDonald's menu. Boxes, wrappers, cardboard cups and straws, ketchup and mustard envelopes and more were fluttering in the breeze.
It's sad to see this chaos but business is business and the Chinese grocery and Food Express are providing a lot of the libations on Maho. Many of the "one day" tourists fail to clean up behind them, no garbage bins on the beach and by 6 pm it can be a mess.
On the other end of the beach Driftwood look after cleanup well. Guy has garbage bins and new seating. Parking is an issue but some choose to park underground in MAHO and walk down.
The water is still perfect, colors spectacular and the planes low and exciting.....go before 11 am and get the feel of the Real Maho.
