Trip Report 5/16 - 5/23/09

Well, we're back from another excellent adventure in SXM. We were fortunate to have an entire week of mostly sunny & very warm weather w/a passing shower here & there late in the day or early morn. We had fabulous meals at Temptation, Valentino, Talk of Town bbq, Rare, Saratoga & Bamboo Bernie (Maho). We enjoyed breakfasts at Turtle Pier & Mary's Boon & had wonderful tapas/cocktails on the beach at the new place, Karakter - fyi, it's right past Mary's Boon & if you eat and/or drink, the beach chairs & umbrella's are free. On Thurs nite from 6pm - 9pm, they had a sax player that was terrific - just a really enjoyable evening.

We had no problems either coming or going from EWR to SXM at the airport - we traveled Sat to Sat & there were very light lines. We rented this time w/Budget & got a nice Toyota at a good price.

Also had a very nice day shopping in Philipsburg & then going to the very calm & relaxing beach. Got some great prices on watches at Joe's Jewelry too.

Another fab vacation with only 1 complaint.... way too short a time. I don't care what anyone says, it's still one of the best islands to go to - it's real & it's beautiful & it will always be special to us. Eventually, we hope to rent for at least a month on SXM. So if you're new to this message board & thinking of going to SXM, you'll not be disappointed - there's something about it that makes you fall in love with it. Happy & safe travels to all.

Marguerite...thank you for a delightful trip report! I assume you stayed on the Dutch side and tried pretty much the best of everything! And yes...we started with 1 week for our vacation about 15 years ago and within a few years changed it to 2. We have never looked back on that decision.

Thanks for the nice report. Glad you had another great time. One week REALLY IS too short. We're at two weeks+ each visit now and would love to stretch it more.

Thanks for the trip report. We are up to 2 weeks per visit 2 to 3 times a year. We left the island right before you arrived. Glad to hear your weather was good, when we were there we had a lot of cloud cover and rain, but still had a wonderful time!

You left and we had just arrived. We spent 2 glorious weeks at the RI from the 24th until 6/7 Everyone here at home keeps asking us, why don't we try another island, or a cruise. And my answer is always the same. When you have found perfection, don't screw with it!!! We have been coming to St Maarten for years and can't say enough good things about it. We were cancelled on this past October because of Omar, and truly missed being there. But these last 2 weeks more than made up for it. See you again this October '09 can't wait >grinning smiley<
