Barbara,Thanks and a very Happy New Year to you.I guess its the usual story about them being sent over from another Dutch island for a few weeks.Every winter season we see the same story in the DH. Hopefully they will arrive and make a difference. See ya soon .

It seems that the culprits have now moved their "targets of choice" over to the Cupecoy area at night.angry smiley Aside from the article listed on the other board, I received a letter from our resort that we should be extemely careful walking along the road in front of our place at night as there was a specific incident reported just recently when 2 people walking to the Atlantis in the evening were almost accosted except that they ran to our security guard in time, who then called the police. The culprits sped off on their dirt bikes. It seems that the Atlantis Casino was also assaulted as well that night according to the police. It tends to seem taht they move in waves and so I guess the Cupecoy area is their current "hit zone".

It's good that your resort is warning people. All of the resorts need to do that.

I'm really concerned about the crime I'm reading about in St. Maarten. I've already booked for July and am concerned; I have a 12 year old who will be going with us. How bad is the crime there?

I have had a girlfriend visiting for a week and she has been all over the island..never a problem.
other friends of mine......pat and kim and their families.....11 of them with children ranging from 2 years to 16 years old...I think..have been here visiting fpor 10 days and have had a ball.....no problems.

Just be careful and use your head and don't leave anything in your car or carry a lot of valuables or flash a lot of jewelery.
By now everyone should know what to do and what not to do.

It is entirely possible and probable to visit here without becoming a victim of crime.

I agree and as stated earlier NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR OR TRUCK of value. Also IMO do not choose a car rental outfit by lowest price only.Rent from a recommended outfit or one you know. The big name outfits in the US are on SXM but privately owned.good luck.

What a shame to hear ..... i sure wish they would get this under some sort of control .. we just came back from a vacation(our first non-St martin)where the house didn't even have locks and it took us days to get used to not locking down like a fortress each night .. but it sure was nice
