January 30 – February 16, 2009 Trip Report

My vocabulary lacks new words to describe the wonderful time we have ever trip to SXM.
We can slide into “island time” in the time it takes to walk out the front door of the airport, take that first deep breath of SXM air along with the glorious, warm sunshine, pick-up our car from the ever- reliable, and smiling face of Mickey from Tropical/Tropicana(www.tropical-tropicana.com).
Flights - USAir, and courtesy of George W. and our stimulus check. All flights were either on time or early. We were first through immigration. Of course luggage was slow, then the electricity went out for four or five minutes. It came, we got one of our bags and it went out again. Another traveler and I looked down the little conveyor tunnel and saw our last bags so we crawled in and retrieved our bags. Have no idea how long the second outage lasted….but didn’t care. I had my bags.
Since we were staying the first night with friends in the Rambaud Hill area and not wanting to mess with bridge traffic at 4:45 in the afternoon, I arranged to stop by Tropical’s office the next day on Saturday and sign papers. I also had to stop by Sharon’s Office( www.queenofsxm.com ) on Saturday morning. Phone worked on all parts of the island.
Accomodations - Saturday, we checked into Oyster Bay Beach Resort. Our home for two weeks. A one bedroom unit overlooking Dawn Beach.
The last two nights we stayed at Travelers Inn on Airport Rd. An adequate place to stay, with king bed, small fridge and sink in room, clean bath and a balcony overlooking Airport Rd. A convenient location on the right side of the bridge for easy access to airport.
BREAKFAST – Mostly in room with breads and almond crossiants from Boulangerie Bakery . Also bread from Mama Pizza.
Baywatch - Favorite place to sit enjoy the morning. 2 eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee -$7.50 +$1.serv. chrg.
Kangaroo Court – Another great place for breakfast in a tropical setting. Between 7-9am the” breakfast special” is 2 eggs, potatoes, toast, bacon or sausage for $3.95. Coffee is $2., soda is $2.50.
The Bagel House – Our last two breakfasts were here. Norm had French Toast which is incredible. Betty had 2 eggs with potatoes and toast. Add a coffee and soda and the cost is $15. No serv. chrg. We saw Bill and Elaine finishing up their breakfast on Sunday and were invited to join them.

Norm great trip!

When is OBBR going to tell their owners. Our plans are to arrive in late June and I was hoping for the Tower. I guess that will be out!

Also looking for place to stay two night midweek for around $200.00 per night any suggestions

Who knows when or what OBBR will tell its owners. Probably won't matter anyway since they lie and change their story more often than the weather guy on TV.
As far as a place to stay for a couple nights in late June. We really enjjoy staying at Turquoise Shell Inn. It's on Airport Rd and within walking distance of most Simpson Bay restaurants. Carter prefers a minimum of three nights, but being late June he might bend a little. www.tshellinn.com
