Hey Lynn,

You can ship anything if you want to spend the $$$$.

I considered leaving a car in SXM about 2 years ago and decided it was too expensive to ship from Miami. I think it was about $2500.00.

There are MANY used cars for sale at reasonable prices on Island due to the turn in of rental cars and the transient factor.

Registration, safety checks etc. would be easier to obtain through a dealer who knows the ropes.

Since the roads do take their toll with potholes, rain, salt water and other factors that quickly deteriorate a car it may be prudent to choose run of the mill transpo which will also help with a vandalism and theft issues down the road.

If you are in Canada a container service out of Halifax would ship for about $5000.00 at last estimate.

The white Toyota Corolla is the auto of record with the most theft incidents.

If we were living on Island a definite purchase would be an inflatable type boat for the lagoon....quickest and safest between a number of shopping and dining spots.

VRooooom !

Denis

TropicGirl,
Where are you shipping from?
Tropical Shipping had a very good rate for shipping from West Palm Beach to SXM. Plus they let you put a few small things in the car.

Inspection is pretty easy. The dealer down there does NOT help you with it. (Sorry Dennis). We purchased a new car there at Marshall Motors. Our car could not be bought to the US because it did not meet emmission standards.

License plate you get in town at Island Receiver's office. That's another adventure. Take lots of $$$. You never know what will happen.

Good luck

I bought a car on the island last year. The dealer got it inspected for me. It is a two year inspection. Getting the plates is easy as long as you go ahead of time there are no lines. I have paid for my registration already and just waiting for them to announce in the paper that the plates are in. Waiting can cost you time. Cars bought will probably not be allowed in the States because the emissions and elimination of air bags. Clem

From the USA, you will need a right of export certificate, from your department of motor vehicles.
Try Bernuth Agencies in Miami, 305-633-7711

A larger difference in price is containerized or open deck cargo.
