Can anyone who has been to SXM since April tell me if new construction has started at the Caravanserai, which is just beyond Sunset Beach Bar and Bliss. We have reda on a SXM newsletter that construction was delayed due to lack of proper permits for tall buildings near thge airport. Any first hand information regarding progress of this project would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I don't like to "cross" boards-- but since your question hasn't been answered on this board within the last week-- try posting on TTOL--I know there are some time share owners at Caravanserai who are TTOLers----I was at SSBB at the end of May-- and there were big dump trucks exiting the Caravanseai property that were hauling concrete debris--other than that I have no info---chbpod

I drove through Caravanserai yesterday and saw ONLY the demolition of a few water front shops between Bliss and Bamboo Bernies. I did not see any sign of construction of the additional rooms which are needed to obtain a casino license.

Thank you to those who have responded. I have received an email from the sales department at Caravanserai stating that demolition has started, and due to delays, that the new building will not be ready until July 2007 instead of March or April.
Please keep us posted of any progress that you see on the site.
Thanks!

I just returned from SXM and we done a timeshare presentation for this resort and not much construction just demolition of a few hotel rooms. The design looks very nice, we talked with a guy named Antonio.

I take it that the FCC and Caravanserai have come to an agreement and that construction will be allowed?

Antonio is a salesman. Do not rely on what he says. There is absolutely no permit to build rooms. Do not give the hotel a deposit. The government hates the owner of the property and may never give htem the permit. It is a war of attrition between the owner and the government. The owner is hoping a new government gets in and the government is hoping the owner goes bust.

It is the FAA and while the FAA does not have a problem the owner of the resort has thoroughly antagonized the members of gov't. Who knows if the hotel will ever get a permit to build.

I have just returned from SXM and went to Caravanserai. I am buying a new condo there and went to check on it. They have torn down building A and B but have not started building there yet. Bamboo Burnies has made some nice improvements to their facility and it will be a nice addition to the area.
